Montoya out against Belarus

Schneider will start to rest Montoya tonight.

ESPN2 has the game on a 1 hour tape delay. If you're watching outside the US or listening on a gamecast, DO NOT spoil to game for us. Go to the game thread on the WJC board.

Good, Schnieder isnt playing good. He let up a bad goal and there now down 2. Al should be back against the Czechs.

yeah but it's just more of the same with the US defense, i'm really dissaopinted with how this team is playing

i'm honestly not even impressed with how the US is running its offense. they don't look like they really have a good gameplan

Supposedly, they spent yesterday working strictly on the defense strategy, yet this might be their worst period of the tournament.

Definitely a couple of homers calling the game.... the other night against the Swiss as they were cutting to commercial... they were boasting how the US just scored 2 quickies to take the lead... too bad they forgot to mention the 2 other quickies they gave up in 20 seconds to blow the lead

I want to see Montoya carry the team to a comeback. He could use it.

Godamn. I dont want to make excuses for that one, but its hard to come in like that and be ready. However, that was bad.

ouch, bad one there...kinda hard since he had no warmup time at all and wasn't expecting to play

but team USA as a whole is not playing well at all. the offense sucks so far this game, the defense has been atrocious the entire tournament, and the goaltending up and down

montoya just didn't look ready for a shot

i just dunno, no one on the US team is sharp

no hustle or urgency by the skaters or the goalies really. both schnieder and montoya just haven't looked ready to play at times

I agree with you guys about Montoya being cold on that first shot. That's a tough situation to be in. He still looked better than Corey Schneider on the third goal.

Belerus had 4 goals in their previous 3 games. Terrible play by the young Americans.

nice save against kostitsyn from the slot...

i think montoya needs to work on his skating and stuff a little, he looks kinda unsteady at times. probably just needs to settle down more and not be as active in net

but i notice him being vocal with his team and communicating to them where the puck is, etc

sigh, another horrible defensive blunder and montoya can't bail them out

guess he coulda had that goal, quick shot through his five-hole...but it's always hard when your D gives them a clear shot on net from there

Well at least Montoya is getting used to bad defensive plays. At least he knows what to expect when Poti is on the ice. But seriously I love the work ethic of Callahan and I like Stafford as well. O Sullivan wow we should have taken him instead of Baranka, nothing against Baranka, but this team can use a skilled line 1/ 2 centre since Lundmark aint cutting it.

Tom Poti's contract expires after the 2004-05 season.Poti will be a group II whenever they play hockey again.Don't even tender him another contract

uhh, montoya isn't going to be playing in the NHL next year, and poti only has 1 year on his contract (and since i've heard lots of people saying that this lockout year counts against contracts, poti won't be under contract next year even)

now that goal against the belarussian goalie was a weak goal, wow

and now the US finally picks up its game, when is it gonna learn to bring this intensity from the beginning

team USA needs to ditch this dump and chase strategy, they're getting no pressure at all on when they play this way

sure belarus is clogging the neutral zone well but the US has to learn how to get through that
