Jets 2012-2013 lineup

Hey Everyone,
Got bored at work and noticed this was about the same time we started a similar thread like this last year... I asked in the OT thread if this was a good idea but I'm too impatient to wait for a response

Insert your best Jet's lines in the following situations:
1) No New Signings/Trades (AKA just re-signing UFA/RFA and bring up prospects)
2) New Signings (realistic ones... albeit given some leeway due to subjectivity in realistic expectations... no flame wars )
3) New Signings and Trades (repeat re: realistic ones)

Obviously you don't have to do all three but probably mention which one you're doing.

PS I'll do my own later (not on company time haha)

Finally got the time to make my own examples... No flamewars now 'cos I made it quickly.

1) No Newbs
Ladd – Little– Wheeler
Kane – Burmi – Wellwood
Cormier – Antro – Mach
Glass – Slater – Thor
Mittens/Stappleton

Enstrom – Bogo
Hainsey – Buff
Stuart – Clitty
Kulda/Postma

2) With UFAs
Ladd – Little – Wheeler
Kane – Joki – Wellwood (OR Kelly or Stoll or Fehr)
Antro – Burmi – Samuelson (OR Stempniak)
Moore – Slater – Thor (OR Hall or Prust or Tootoo)
Mach/Cormier (OR Mittens or Stapleton)

Enstrom – Bogo
Jackman– Buff
Hainsey – Stuart
Kulda/Postma/Clitty

3) Sorry, but I don’t know enough about other teams’ needs to know trades that are viable.

4) *Bonus* Dreams can happen?
Kane – Stall – Selane
Ladd – Little – Wheeler
Antro – Burmi – Wellwood (all three can trade off being centre here)
Cormier – Slater – Mach
Mittens/Stappleton

Enstrom – Bogo
Jackman– Buff
Hainsey – Stuart
Kulda/Postma/Clitty

Love this thread! Wish I could get to the draft again this year, had a blast last year in Minnesota.

1) Ladd - Little - Wheeler
Kane - Antropov - Burmistrov
Machacek - Cormier - Miettinen
Glass - Slater - Thorburn
Bogosian - Enstrom
Byfuglien - Postma
Stuart - Hainsey

2) Kane - Little - Wheeler
Ladd - Burmistrov - Selanne
Boyes - Antropov - Doan
Glass - Slater - Thorburn
Bogosian - Carle
Byfuglien - Wideman
Stuart - Enstrom
Hainsey

3) Burmistrov - J. Staal - Wheeler
Kane - Little - Selanne
Ladd - Vermette - Doan
Glass - Slater - Thorburn
Bogosian - Carle
Byfuglien - Wideman
Stuart - Postma

J. Staal for Enstrom. Get that big body #1 centre for a fragile defenceman who can't shoot.
Kane adds some sandpaper to Little/Selanne's skill set.
Antropov, Hainsey, and another bag of pucks for Vermette (his speed would compliment a Doan/Ladd checking line).
GST line would have to take on more of a fighting/agitating role.

I'll take a stab at this:

Trades:
1) Ron Hainsey + CHI 2013 2nd to St. Louis for Chris Stewart
2) Nik Antropov + Ben Maxwell to Dallas for DAL 2012 2nd + John Klingberg

Signings:
*Jim Slater
*Kyle Wellwood
*Chris Mason
Jiri Hudler
Jordin Tootoo
Milan Jurcina

Ladd - Little - Wheeler
Kane - Hudler - Stewart
Fehr - Burmistrov - Wellwood
Tootoo - Slater - Thorburn
(Machacek, Cormier)

Enstrom - Byfuglien
Postma - Bogosian
Jurcina - Stuart
(Kulda, Clitsome)

Pavelec
Mason

burmi is on alot first and second lines ... im thinking next year is the start of the end for him in winnipeg. unless everyone starts to see his 3rd line potential and isnt disapointed every year when he doesnt explode in the top 6

I just don't think there are any UFA options or anyone in the system ready to step in at 1st or 2nd line Center.

Ladd-Burmi-Byfuglien - You'd never get the puck away from those guys (okay, Ladd turns it over all the time, but the other two can basically cycle in the offensive zone without the boards).

moving bigg buff to our top 6 is a very smart move imo , most likely wont happen.... but it would help with our size upfront.. and open up a spot on d, also it would make more sense to keep toby then too..and also bring in a very good shut down defenseman in... forwrds size--check improve defense-- check.. jets not spending more money---check what do you guys think?

I hope those who have put Selanne on their roster are right, it'll make my Blue Selanne Throwback Jersey less outdated...

Looking back over this thread I'm glad to see no one delusional enough to think Scheff or Klingberg would be on next years Jets roster, surprised many of you overlooked Machacek who I think is a lock to make the team this fall.

Would also like to see the Jets go younger and bigger with Wellwood's spot, dump Fehr, Jones and Flood and build a new number 1 line with Kane, FA and Wheeler. Obviously Ladd and Little move to second line duty with ?.

Albeit a little off topic:
* I think most of us range from fairly realistic to pessimistic. Most of us know Sheif is unlikely to be on the Jets roster next year and would be best with 1 more OHL year and maybe 1 year of AHL. Klingberg I think needs a year of topline AHL before he plays the NHL.
*Machacek had good production at the end of the season but a lot of it was lucky and unsustainable. Luckily he's played up on enough NHL games over his career to have decent sample size to determine his true NHL use/production. I would say he isn't a lock. I hope he's a lock for getting a shot at the roster but shouldn't be handed to him.
*Bigger is only better if skill isn't lessened (for both Enstrom and Wellwood). I know that this was probably a career year for Wellwood but, with our harsh depth on RW and lack in realistic FA options, Wellwood would be fine for a 3rd line RW.
*We all would love a 1C but its the most saught after comodity in the NHL and we have to be as realistic in finding it through FA as we are about Sheif/Klingberg making the NHL next year

for me if machacek makes the team or not is not on my list of top things to do. we can keep recycling ahl players throughout the 4th line and they will all for the most part play ok.. i really really hope we add someone to our top 6, we cant expect burmi to do much next year. little is at his peak to me and is going to bring the same amount of offense every year. i love what ladd and wheeler brings.. wheeler's upside is up there with kanes. hes a bit older but everyone knows what wheels is bringin every night now that hes on a roll. wouldnt it be nice the actually think we had a shot at a parise or would pay him is what i really mean probably. the 3 teams left are in the top 13 in cap this year, vancouver and boston were in the top 11 last year and so on. being cheap isnt going to work.. lets hope someome besides an ex moose or someone from waivers comes this year.. holes dont HAVE to be fills from within.. especially when we dont have the fill anyways

Yeah, they could try to sign Parise. It would cost a lot, and no guarantee he lands in Winnipeg even if they offer the most money. Does it make the Jets a playoff team? Does it make them serious contenders?

It's a thin crop of UFA's this year. A lot more talent in the pool next year: Zajac, Jordan Staal, Elias, Perry, Getzlaf, Roy, Bouchard, Sidney Crosby... Even guys like Weiss, Filppula, Purcell, Brouwer, Higgins, Nystrom. Keep your powder dry, Jets...I think your UFA dollar goes a lot farther in 2013.

That and we have a lot of our own UFA/RFAs who will be looking for raises that year...

But anyways...

Game back on!

The team was so young this year. I think you could keep pretty much the same squad and have a great shot at the playoffs. A top six forward is not coming to Wpg through FA in the next couple seasons and I don't think that's a problem. Among Scheifele, Klingberg and Telegin, I think we'll find our answers eventually.

yea this year is very low on the talent level on free agency... i was using parise as an example.. the jets have made it clear we wont be going after any top contract guys... nash , parise, crosby , etc etc etc the jets keep saying build from within and through the draft.. if you read between the lines that says to me that we shouldnt be holding our breath for a contender anytime soon.. i will go to all my games and watch the rest of them every year.. i understand the deal... but it still sucks to know we will miss out on the excitment of grabbing amazing players because of their high price... everyone knows we wont get parise.. the people that are still in the honeymoon would blame that on him not wanting to play here. or wanting to stay in jersey.. but the realist fans.. whow ant whats best for the jets but still wont suercoat things.. they know its because the jets wouldnt pay for a superstar like that..

To be honest that's where his *current* production and age should dictate... a third liner who will soon enough be a top 6 (take in mind Noel used the GST "checking" line and the "ahl line")

Common Duke... I want to see you take a shot at this be a couch GM
