Would be cool if they dropped something from the point where Baumgartner jumped, and could effectively control it and make it land directly into the Mariana Trench to see how deep it would go. Just for ***** and giggles, lol.

From 40 km's up to 10 km's below the surface.

They should drop a sperm whale or something just to see the explosion of guts.

Now that we can do it, why not ???

I think I just found god.

For those that like extreme sarcasm directed at the drivel that makes up popular culture:

Does any commentary like this even exist on this continent?

I love Brit humor.

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast about a half hour ago.

7.1 ftr which is a lot less severe. Depending on where the epicenter is this won't cause too much.

edit: conflicting reports I see. Other reports are saying 7.7 Luckily the epicentre is in the Queen Charlotte Islands and not the heavily populated Islands further south.

Ah, I just noticed that. The first article that I read suggested that it reached 7.7.

Yeah, I edited my post as I noted that too. Every second article says either 7.1 or 7.7 and theres a massive difference in magnitude. Still, this is nothing like the Japan quake or the magnitude that could hit the west coast.

Pretty unimpressed with Farrel over that.
Real class act.
AA handled it with a bit of class, but he could have raked Boston over the coals for him, or just said no.

Obviously, Farrell is the a-hole here but I wasn't impressed with AA or Beeston. They bent over backwards and exhibited weakness. Now every MLB team is going to try to take advantage of this sad-sack organization.

Recently I became eligible to obtain my non-GDL class 5 licence, as I've had my GDL licence for 2 years. Can anyone who's taken the non-GDL road test tell me what to expect?

Twice as long, but easier. You just drive around, no parking or anything.
At one point the instructor asked me to point out potential hazards, so I mentioned the cross walks, parked cars, etc... Just know your school zone speed limits and stuff.

Any highway driving, traffic circles or stuff like that?

Ive heard the failure rate for that test is pretty high, too lazy to look it up now but higher then I expected. I dont really know what the point of that law was. Every driver I know who got their license in high school has not upgraded to it. People were just content to drive with it instead of spending 100 bucks on another test

I haven't bothered taking the non-GDL test. Most of my friends who have attempted it failed on their first try despite being perfectly fine drivers. It's just a cash grab. Not worth it in my opinion.

I did mine at the registry on 91st and 39th ave and it did have a couple clicks on the Whitemud, but there aren't any traffic circles in the area (which is a shame, more roundabouts the better as long as people learn how to use them).

Honestly I found it easier than the first drivers licence test (which I failed on the first try). The only thing difficult thing about the GDL test is that it's long (an hour). But it's just cruising around and avoiding speeding. I avoided taking the test for 5 years and then decided to get it out of the way for a little peace of mind. But I found it quite easy and none of my friends failed their GDL test either.

For a few days before my test I practiced not speeding, the day of my test I double checked the hours and speed limits of school/playground areas. That's all the prep I needed to do and it probably was unnecessary.

I'm with you....I wouldn't mind having my full license, but staying GDL actually has kept me from driving after a few beers in the past. Zero tolerance is a lot easier to track than some magical 0.05 BAC that's impossible to ascertain without a personal meter.

Does going non-gdl effect insurance cost? Only reason I want but I'm unsure if it's even a benefit.

Not going to lie, but everytime someone asks if there is traffic circles on the test I cringe.

They are beyond easy to use, but so many people have no clue how to use them. They should be mandatory on exams IMO.
