Just a note about Russo's repeated statement about the contract limit:
We are currently at 35/50 contracts. We technically have 12 RFAs (that counts Almond and Johnson). Assuming all RFAs are retained other than those known to be gone, Endras, and Fredheim, we will be at 43/50 contracts. Looking through the list, I think they're missing Veilleux so make that 44/50. We will likely sign 1 more defenseman, and 1 (maybe 2) more forwards. That's 46 or 47/50. Dumba will probably be signed, but his contract slides if he goes back to Red Deer.
We should have 3 or 4 open contract spots going into the season then.
I wonder if the Wild would bring in a guy like Myles Bell to camp. He might qualify to play in the AHL (not sure if his 8 GP in 08-09 counts as a season, if it does, he's AHL eligible based on 4 seasons played). I assume they can work something out with his parole. The lack of a driver's license should help the team keep a close eye on him. He's a kid who made a horrible horrible mistake, but he's still a good hockey prospect.
The team should have gotten a good look at him in Kelowna. I'm still surprised we didn't take a flier on him.
