Hopefully he improved his skating, if he did I could see him being a decent bottom 6 guy.

Lol at people saying this is a bad move. Isles' fans will find anything to complain and pout about, if you read he has an OUT CLAUSE to go back to Sweden if he doesn't make the roster. Would you rather have Pandolfo rotting away on the fourth line? At least this guy is young and has some upside. For those saying he is soft, have you watched him play in Sweden, how do you know his overall game hasn't improved. I'm sure a year away from this corrupt organization helped him clear his mind and get back to developing.

Very surprised by this signing, but he did look pretty good in the WC's. I figured that ship had sailed and this is a major low risk, high reward signing IMO. That language of that 'Sweden out clause' as others have mentioned is big, he doesn't make the team then he just goes back to Sweden - easy peasy. He's basically signing to come back to training camp. If he does get cut and goes back to his homeland, he'll HATE this organization fo-eva.

Rushing kid out of juniors into the NHL = bad move.

Signing kid after he develops in SEL for a few years = bad move.

What exactly is a good move?

Well, one year, after three years in BPort.

And when you look at his stats from this season, keep in mind that he had that one amazing 7 point game in between (9-7 come-from-behind victory).

We need to see if he has learned to play a two-way, roughian game.

If he has, then fine, because he is not a scorer at this level. He wasn't a scorer in the SEL either. His production was decent in the AHL, but he fancied himself a playmaker. He needs to be a relentless checker who creates havoc on his way to the net. He has to understand that this is the only way for him to stick in the NHL.

Nonetheless, it's the Island or Sweden.

See? Snow doesn't let go of all of his assets.

But seriously, this isn't a terrible move-just not a great one either. Low risk-low reward.

I can't stand this move, he was useless before going to sweeden, he will prove to be the same way this year... The isles need more size but should have never got rid of the Zenon. Prust would be a nice addition but I can't see him coming to Long Island

I am not sure I think much more than you, but how do you KNOW that? If the team would have signed Prust, I can't imagine that Joensuu is an equal replacement. They bring different things to the lineup.

I can't wait July 1, Islanders is happy to announce 4 new players Tom Kostopoulos, Brandon Yip, Shane O'Brien & Jeff The Finger. Good times.

Joensuu is not an NHL player, but we'll see, maybe he will prove me wrong. ?

I wonder how long this newly found aggressiveness/snarl will last. I hope it continues from now on.

I don't get what's wrong with this move? All this does is give him a shot to prove his game has developed this past season in the SEL, if he's the same old JJ he's as good as gone, the front office let him go last time I highly doubt they'd be scared to let him leave once again.

This position is not guaranteed, if he sucks he's gone, if he plays better than others he'll stay there's absolutely no risk here really.

You hit the nail on the head with his number one fault prior to last season. Personally I thought he was just another big bodied European who managed to perpetuate Don Cherry's worst nightmare which is the biggest ***** cat on the ice. That's what he was prior to his being sent overseas. If he has managed to get some nasty in his game, and brings it regularly, well then that is a very different Joensuu. The skating I wasn't all that worried about as it can be improved (just ask Tavares) but usually a guy is aggressive or not.

Thanks for the good news.

Assuming Chapin is still conversing with me, any chance I can get him to comment on the big guy if he hasn't already? I want to believe he saw some of him over there. Anyone else who can corroborate a more physical edge to Jesse's game would be welcome as well. If it is true then he is back to being a solid prospect.

He looked very good during the W. championships and crashed the net with reckless abandon. I hope he makes the jump and succeeds. This is a low risk move,

This is actually a good move, because it is low risk. At this point JJ is better than Rolston or Hunter, and I am a huge Hunter fan, but that ship sailed.

We should be setup with

Moulson/JT/Strome
Bailey/Nielsen/Okposo
Grabner/Cizikas/Martin
Ullstrom/Reasoner/JJ

Not great, but adding Jokinen would align this team right.

I am no fan of Snow but this is a great move. Nothing to lose with this contract and its about friggin' time we start holding onto some euro prospects.

Sweden isn't his homeland...though his home is there atm.

Jesse looked good at WHC's and I liked the physicality he brought...sometimes looked like a truck.

He has improved his game in Sweden.

I'd rather have those guys too and hopefully we will sign one of them, but this has no bearing on whether we sign one of those guys.
On LI having a one way deal equals playing in the NHL

Seriously though, I think this is an okay signing and it also opens the door for putting Nino in Bport. I think Joensuu has done quite well in Sweden and recently got selected for Finland's WC squad where he also scored a dramatic winner in one of the games. The Euro clause is just the right thing because they can easily ship him out if he doesn't play well

they key to any line is chemistry .
I think if you put JJ on a bottom 6 line that has another grinding winger and a speedy water bug type center they could create some offense by getting a bit of a cycle going in the offensive zone .

it'll be hard for him to showcase his bread and butter if all his line can do is come in on the forecheck and watch the other team move the puck out easily.

Can not believe this..... What kind of defense does JJ provide? Who Does he Hit?

sounds like more pain.....JJ and Reasoner

Reasoner is a Joke.....

we will have the softest 4th line in The NHL again.......Players that should be retired and players lucky to be in the NHL.......

If Snow can not bring in better talent and loses PA......we will get #1 overall in 2013......

Will it ever get better?
