Cliche and Clune re-signed to two year deals

Per Brennan Klak (NHLUpdate on Twitter)

Does anyone know if Cliche would have to go through waivers to be sent down to Manch? If not, conventional wisdom I guess would say that Cliche was signed to be on the team next year.

Cliche will be Fraser's replacement at some point. Could be this coming season or next.

Both players are subject to waivers. Not that it matters much as they've both cleared waivers in the past. Always good to have depth and experience in Manchester. It's also good to see that the Monarchs captain is committed to resuming his role. Who knows, Cliche may have an opportunity on the fourth line if they can't come to terms with Colin Fraser.

This kind of leadership in the AHL cannot be underestimated.

It's almost as important as the leadership group that is on the big club.

Didn't they move Clune to center...? He would be more suited for Fraser's replacement. Cliche is nowhere as physical a player as Fraser...

So does this mean we no longer need Parise?

Yep. Fraser might have outpriced himself during the playoffs. Lombardi seems to like Cluneatic.

Clune is pathetic and players of his ilk aren't needed on a cup winning team. I have no idea after watching this club run 4 balanced lines in the playoffs why anyone would want to insert a clown freak show on the 4th line. Either re-sign Fraser or put Cliche there.

Sutter loves rolling 4 lines and doesn't play matchups, no way can we afford to waste a 4th line center spot.

Solid signings, but the best part of the press release is the bolded part. It will be awesome to see every press release put that in. It seems more tangible once it is in official press releases.

When he got his ass handed to him by Rick Rypien (RIP)? Clune is good at being a pest (better than Zeiler), but he fights worse than Kelly Buchberger and Warren Rychel. Now if he only played more like Warren Rychel. He was one of my favorite Kings in '93.

I hope Fraser is brought back to center the fourth line. He brought the identity that line was missing for the longest time.

Clune is at best a reserve forward on this team but yeah, Cliche is not a goon...he has skill and that's more suited to Sutters "roll 4 lines" mentality.

What, just cuz he got his ass kicked by a great fighter? In his brief time here I remember him being a good skater, tenacious, and pretty disciplined....although his AHL PIM numbers don't attest to that. He doesn't have a ton of skill but neither does Fraser. Fraser played well but it's not like Clune would be replacing some two-way dynamo or anything, these extensions certainly mean that both Clune and Cliche are knocking on the door for 4th line duty next year

And I also remember Dwight King last year. What a difference a year (or two) make.

I doubt ether guy makes the Roster. They are career AHL players.

Clune would not have a job if not for the Kings, Cliche the same.

So why would they not sign extensions ? Both of these guys are going to remain in the AHL. Both get to continue playing Hockey for 50k a year. That would sound good to me.

I don't even make 50k a year.

I disagree, Marc-Andre Cliche could easily be our #4 center next year
