New Jersey Devils Pre-Draft Analysis

Hey Folks,

HF's Brian Fogarty wrote a comprehensive article on the Devils and the upcoming Draft. I thought some of you might want to check it out...

Long known as a trapping team more content to completely shut down the ice and win tight games, the Devils are currently struggling through a transition period
Was going to stop reading there, but then I saw this:

Quote:
The Devils have top-flight talent up front, with All-Stars Ilya Kovalchuk, Parise and Zajak.

Don't quit your day job, Brian...

In fairness, he spelled it correctly the other two times he used it. But if this year was a "struggle", I'll take struggling anytime.

If this is struggling, I want to struggle even worse next year

How can you defend that garbage? There was absolutely no *struggle* about it. Not to mention we've been focusing on an uptempo forechecking system since Sutter. It's not like this is a new concept.

It's hack writing at best..

With apologies to Jared, whose writing I enjoy, most of these websites are dime a dozen. Ain't no Pulitzers to be found.

J-Ram knows what he's talking about. Very up to date on all the prospects and understands the current state of the team.

I dare not click as it will only provide incentive for this Brian to write more articles and perhaps earn him a paycheck.

If you're going to suggest the Devils struggled in a year where they were 2 wins shy of a Cup then you either don't watch hockey or started writing your piece prior to the end of the 1st round and were too lazy to finish/update.

Sorry, thanks but no thanks!

Two wins away from the Cup and we're struggling. Damn, I didn't know the Devils were expected to win every year.

That's all I have to say. Learn something about recent hockey please.

(edit- in response to the original thread starter.)

additional edit upon further reading- Okay. Not learn something about recent hockey; how about learning something about recent DEVILS NEWS. Ever heard of Stephen Gionta?

Aside from the struggling comment (I think he meant it as a struggle of identity, not in terms of on ice play), I do have to say the article was pretty poorly written. Most of the blame likely lies with whoever edited the article. There are tons of run-on sentences, random changes of flow (talking about Parise, Zajac and Kovalchuk and all of a sudden we're referring to Sykora?) and a few facts that, well, have obviously not been fact checked.

Oh well.

I'm not even sure if I agree with what this guy's draft priories are. With our picks what is the point on stocking up on more goalies? I just don't see a pick being any more NHL ready then Wedgewood, so unless something awesome it sitting out there short term goalie situation after Marty retires will be addressed in free agency or via trade.

Forward depth I do agree with, need to plant need seeds down there.

Eh, his assessments for the most part were good and accurate. This guy might be new to sports writing and he could just be getting his feet wet. Give him a break.

It's like I went to BleacherReport without actually having to go to BleacherReport.

Nah, if it was from BR it would be full of Parise will sign with [insert favorite team], the Devils are broke and will relocate to [insert big city near the writers location that does not have an NHL team] and awful trade proposals.

The struggling comment is either very poorly worded or a giant brainfart, but besides that the article is okay. Nothing that will win a pulitzer but on par with most HF articles. But since we have Jared as our HF writer, we might be a little spoiled.

I figure Zajac isn't such a well known player that everyone is going to get his name right every time. But then I saw that Brodeur was also misspelled, and that's just silly.

I would be a rich man, if i got a dollar each time someone on HF or even this board spells Marty's name that way. That and Neidermayer drives me crazy. Names ain't ****ing science.
