RGSE is bidding to run the K-rock Centre in Kingston. The current operators SMG have failed miserably to meet financial agreed to commitments which ends up costing the taxpayers more money. I'll add here that the building of this arena was very politically charged in a midst of negative controversy. City staff in Kingston wanted the council just to renew the contract but unbelievably council declined and opened the bidding.
The Frontenacs fans absolutely hate SMG, for many reasons but one of the biggest complaint is for the simple fact that SMG does purse / bag searches on entry to the arena. This mostly targets women. Their original reason was for safety and security now they just say they are looking for food and the reason for this is that they run the concession stands charging highly overpriced $$'s for crap food. Ticket sales is an issue in the city, the relationship with SMG and the Frontenacs is strained, our local paper has commented on it may times. Things need to change the arena struggles to attract customers and SMG isn't helping with their attitude toward the paying customer. There are lot's of "horror" stories but eveyone should get the picture now.
Now RGSE has a completely different business plan then SMG. What is the perception of the RGSE run arenas by the fans? Do they do purse searches etc.?
Hopefully I am not breaking any rules by posting the link to the story in the Whig about RGSE
they do do purse searches but not aggressive ones. they brought allot to the area. obviously arena food is always expensive and beer is never cheap (7.25 a pop). the royals have brought allot of excitement to the victoria area and the royals surpassed the 200,000 fan ticket sales this season. they have a good business plan, and they awarded the fans in the middle of the season with some nice new screens to go around the score clock. they have a good relationship with the community and the league
