How strange is it, that it was rumored/reported that the Avs were shopping their #11pick last year, and they kept it, but traded their 1st rounder this year, coincidentally enough #11, and a 2nd rounder for Varlamov? That's some weird coincidence right there.
And I'm quite positive that it was this very forum here that someone had posted a link to an article or some tweets from a reputable source that had mentioned that the Avs were aggressively looking for one of those goaltenders, if anyone remembers/knows that I'm referring to, I'd really like to have it re-posted in here.
Anyways, it's summer, I'm jonesing for some more Avs/NHL news right now, thought I'd make a new thread about this strangeness I had recently thought of. If the mods decide it needs to be merged with something else, that would be fine.
It ended up being #11 and Liles which is exactly what many people suggested last season. It was a good trade in retrospect.
I think it was, definitely when you look at it in retrospect...but don't tell that to the Main Board, because we got hosed, but TBL made a great deal giving up 2 2nd rounders, a 3rd rounder and a roster player for Lindback, someone who has talent but is thus far not as accomplished as Varlamov.
i remember that speculation well. people were pissed that we didn't get Bernier or Schneider and i remember contending that if you change the name from Varlamov to one of them no would would decry the trade.
glad we got Varly, still wish we had top 12 protected the pick for this year but it was well worth it. the dude is money when he's got his head in the game. something tells me that winning the gold with Russia at the worlds is gonna help too.
