Take out Stepan and that's not enough. With Stepan it's closer to what it would take, at the worst some overpayment.
You're really UNDERRATING the kid. He's going to be the franchise in Dallas.
There is no way Benn is a franchise player.
He won't even be a superstar. He will be a star player for sure, but im not trading away world for him. That type of package i would trade for a superstar like Nash.
If anything Benn is being underrated in here. He is the future of Dallas, elite player in the making.

The fact that you don't think Benn is on Nash's level makes me believe you have not seen him play.

what is it with people valuing could be, i hope they will be, maybe they will be more then established stud players????
jesus benn is a kid who carried the stars. if we had benn hed be untouchable, wont trade him for less then malkin or stamkos blah blah blah.
the double standard on this board is ridiculous sometimes. somehow stepan is untouchable except for a stud, but benn (who is a stud) is worth dubi mcl a 1st.... oh and im sure soon we will hear "and we will add the rights to zucc"

I'd much rather have Jamie Benn than Rick Nash, and it's not even an argument.
I agree that it would take a King's Ransom and then some to get Benn, but to give up a 2nd year player that just hit 51 points and then all of that on top of him is ridiculous.
If you look at his numbers, plus the fact that he was an all-star, and had his appendix removed mid season and doing it all at 22 years old, you'd see the makings of a franchise point per game power forward.
Think Ryan Getzlaf, but smaller and faster, and with a better shot.
2005: Marc Staal (12th overall)
2006: Bob Sanguinetti (21st overall)
2007: Alexei Cherepanov (17th overall)
2008: Michael Del Zotto (20th overall)
2009: Chris Kreider (19th overall)
2010: Dylan McIlrath (10th overall)
2011: J.T. Miller (15th overall)
The only wasted pick was Sanguinetti. Cherepanov was a tragedy. Jury's out on McIlrath, Miller and Kreider. But Kreider looks to be the real deal.
The Rangers have been drafting much better in rounds 2-5 building depth in the organization. MUCH better at drafting in this time period. One missed pick is not bad in 7 years (I'm not including Cherepanov)
Yeah. I would sell my soul for any of our prospects to be as good as Benn. Kid is great. Only reason I don't make that trade is because than our C depth is shot, but in all likelihood we would have to add MORE to a Stepan, Dubi, McIlrath package. Benn is untouchable.
I asked about Reilly Smith several pages back, but didn't get a response. Good college career, but I know nothing about him other than his stats.
Does anyone think he can be a productive player? Any chance he could help us this season? He would be a rookie, but that's doesn't mean he can't contribute.
Dubi for Smith + a pick then use the cap space to add through free agency? Or is that likely to be a step backwards?

He is a good inverted winger, not a PP specialist, he was the go-to guy in all situations for Miami, scoring a full 1/4 of all the team's goal last season.
From the little I did see of him, he has had a great deal of success cutting in from the right and letting a pretty good shot go. I think he could be a good NHL player but not next season.

If we're adding multiple, multiple pieces. The Rangers have enough cap space, based on last years cap number, to go after a big free agent and one smaller one or simply two mid-sized ones. We don't need to trade Cap space to sign, say, Parise and Jurcina. There would be no point in dealing to free up cap space unless we're bringing in both Suter and Parise.
I'd do Dubinsky, Thomas, McIlrath, and a 1st for Benn. Miller and Stepan are off the table.
Miller off the table? Not for Benn. Even Stepan would be available in that situation.
Wouldn't trade 5 players for him, but he's definitely an amazing player. Big, strong, great hands, versatile, smart. Might be the Lindros of our generation. Obviously, he's not as good, but his size/skill package is as rare as it gets.
