Don't know how it would be unworkable.. The going rate for a top 4 in this market will likely command an upwards of 4.5M unless Snow is looking for a cheap young top 4 defender in which case that makes a lot of sense.
I'd appreciate seeing the article.Between the isles hf board and mania board, there are a lot of NYI rumors and articles.

No one has talked about Snow making a pitch for Ballard.

No thanks, rather just give up a pick for Ballard.

They should target Bouwmeester, would help them out in needing to get to the cap floor

If Michalek gets traded I'll vomit. Repeatedly.

Maybe something around Hjalmarsson and Nielsen? I know Nielsen just got an extension, but I'd like to see Bolland and Nielsen as our number two and three centers.

Mike Weber for a pick. Sabres have an abundance of defensemen and he's the odd man out.

How is Zbynek Michalek's contract "unworkable"? He's getting paid exactly what he should be getting paid, for the type of defenseman he is (a solid #2 or #3 who can PK, block shots, and play positionally strong hockey).

I guess I'm just unclear on what "unworkable" is supposed to mean, given that if Michalek was on the market, I don't doubt for even a second that Shero would get calls from multiple teams looking to acquire him at his current salary.

Isles won't have trouble getting to the cap floor andf they are not one of those deep pocketed teams, that won't mind badly overpaying JayBo.

I don't understand the logic here.

If we sign both those players then he will be traded.

If we sign only one we will keep Ballard.

He's a bad fit in regards to him being misused by the coaching staff and a million dollars overpaid for the third pair. Not as in we don't want him on our team.

What do you guys expect to get for Ballard? A 5th, a 4th? Why do we need to give a team additional assets for a team in need of a top 4 defenceman? We can keep Ballard and play him with Tanev.

So Ballard has a bad contract, but you're willing to overpay for Garrison? What the hell. I don't understand, lol.

I think Garrison is staying with Florida or signing with Vancouver, IMO.

Staples was writing about the NYI.So it's a good bet that he meant unworkable as far as the isles are concerned.

4 defenseman were named. All have big contracts and are coming off disappointing seasons.

Pretty cheesy to get Frans Nielsen to sign a team friendly deal, not even to test the market, then trade him.

I can't see Snow doing it.He depends on that homegrown loyalty.

But didn't they offer Ehrhoff a big contract last year?

Last June they offered Erhoff that 6 yr/$33m deal.

But,then on August 1st,Wang's publicly funded arena was voted down.

He's had his privately financed arena projected rejected and his publicly funded arena project rejected. He looks to be simply hunkering down, waiting until 2015.

Hmm, forgot that was before the arena vote, I guess that could be a factor.

Suppose its upped to Boychuk, and 24th overall? or something the 24th and Alexander Khokhlachev?

No Russians please. Not after Grebs,Petrov,Anton Klementyev

Garth Snow wants a young star or potential star, for the high lottery pick he is passing up.

Newsday says he wants Subban.Come back to the table, with a young star or potential star.

If Evander Kane is really available,I expect to read Snow is trying to package his pick for kane.He is exactly the type of young, high end talent Snow has demanded at the 2010 and 2011 drafts.

What is so difficult to understand, Ballard had a disappointing season, why overpay for him, Garrison is much better. If you like disappointing players Isles can trade you some for free. Keep Ballard and be happy. I think I would take Ballard off re-entry waivers, not worth to pay 4.2M for him.

Lol thanks for the laugh.

We are obviously in disagreement so I'll end here.

Always nice to laugh. I would rather sign Rome for 1.2M than to have Ballard for 4.2M. And giving up picks in a trade for him would be just silly.

Would love him back on the Coyotes, I do think he is slightly overpaid - something that happens when signing UFAs and not having to lose assets... and I wouldn't say his contract is unworkable either!
