Yeah, doc, except that's not what I've said...

Martin's value simply isn't there from the Pens' own perspective because of all the up-and-coming talents that they have on the blueline, ie: Despres and Morrow. They'll be a much better team using Martin's cap hit on finding a winger for Sid or something.

And not once did I say anything about Martin being a negative value...

Good luck adding that high-end forward via trade then, Jim.

Me too, I mean at the draft. If Jordan is traded, it will be after July 1, IMO.

It would have been stunning offer for Shero if he moves Staal this week.

@Ken_Laird

@RobRossi_Trib on KD: per lg source Carolina offer to ‪#Pens‬ for Staal is Justin Faulk, Brandon Sutter, 8th overall pick + taking Paul Martin
Take it for what it's worth.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like I'm late to the party.

How about if Buffalo added their top prospect, Joel Armia. He has a military commitment in Finland until December 2012, and should play the rest of the season in Finland, unless the world ends. Darcy Regier mentioned that Armia is a candidate to jump straight to the NHL in 2013.

So, Buffalo's counter-offer:

- Andrej Sekera D (top 40 defenseman, league wide, statistically. Played a shutdown role in Buffalo).
- Joel Armia RW (Buffalo's top prospect)
- Luke Adam C (Buffalo's 2nd rated prospect)
- 12th overall pick

Admittedly, this package is all about futures, but outside of Pominville or Vanek, futures is what Buffalo can offer.

Taking on Martin makes it sound too good to be true.

Pitt enjoys last season w/him, or takes highest bid AS RENTAL.

Following season, he's Canes or Rangers, who can offer $$, prominence, improving club, and in NY's case, Cup chance, along with at least one bro on board.

Sekera is not a top 40 defenseman. None of whats being offered helps the Pens now & in the future which is what they are looking for besides Sekera who would be a bottom pairing D-man on the Pens.

Do you do predictions of the future on late night TV because you are horrible at it?

In reality some time this summer he will agree to a long term deal with the around the tune of 5-6 million a year.

Letang will get the same next year.

Hopefully I can get a gig on late night tv too now.

Sorry Jaeger, but Sekera doesn't have the sort of track record or impact we'd need in the most NHL-proven commodity coming back for Staal.

The appeal of the Buffalo deal was entirely based on it being an established quality for quality deal, and fitting our need for a skilled RH shot scoring winger.

I'm not necessarily disputing that he might do just that, especially if he gets dealt to someplace he likes, but if I were his agent I'd be advising him to play the season out on his new club as a full-time #1/#2 C with the ice time and PP time that goes with that, put up some nice numbers, and then sign a really big deal next summer.

What if he gets hurt? Big deal might not be there for him. He resigns in Pittsburgh because Ray Shero wants him to remain as part of the core.

Since I can't remember if Molinari is another "hack reporter", I'll leave this to Pittsburgh fans.

But he's tweeting some statements from Shero and second-hand Staal statements. Nothing too new or surprising:

1. Teams have inquired about Staal's availability
2. Shero's told everyone the same thing: He hopes and wants to re-sign Staal
3. Staal has not approached Shero about moving to another team.

TBH though I'd believe quotes attributed directly to Shero coming from Rossi or McKenzie too, it's when they pretend to have the inside scoop on Staals hopes, dreams and aspirations or the actual deals on the table that you need to be wary.

Understandably so, if Jordan wants to join his brother Canes are better off if they wait for a year and sign him as an UFA.

He's a good writer.

Also, something else about Staal from Shero.

Shero said that when teams inquire about Staal, "I tell everyone the same thing." Which is that he hopes -- and wants -- to re-sign Staal.
Again, it's nothing new, but it's good to have these updates.

It's nothing we didn't know already. Shero's stated from the very beginning that he's hoped to re-sign Staal. The question lies in whether Staal wants to re-sign in Pittsburgh, and all we got there was "Well, he hasn't come out and asked for a trade, so I'm still hoping to re-sign him".
