Minnesota? New Jersey? There are teams that I guess you could accuse of that, but NSH/CAR/FLA are not them.

Well, as long as they're thinking about the good of the fans...

I do think the league and players do want to get the season started yet no one is gonna cave because of the fans.

The real issue was summed up nicely by tarheel on the previous page (post 415). All 3 of those team are right at, or just over, what the cap floor would have been under the current system. Florida went out and spent all that money last year because they had to in order to make it to the floor.

Definitely stole this for my Facebook status. Though, I've already had one person tell me I shouldn't post it because "things won't change with her". Sadly, he's not wrong.

I've been faithful and loving. I've put up with your rules even though I disagreed. I've done nothing but support you and be there as much as I can. Please don't toy with my emotions. It's so great that it probably wasn't ever spoken.
But to the heart of the matter...that little piece is pretty dramatic. Do teachers have no care for their students whatsoever when they strike? Of course not. But, when it comes to their collective well-being, their ability to (in their view) fairly make a living, certain things take a back seat. First and foremost, the players are there to provide for themselves and their families. Owners too.

The NHL saying they are committed to working around the clock to find a CBA solution reminds me of OJ saying he would look for the killer.

We're all skirtting the real issuse here guys. It's not the PA or the League, clearly it's Gary Bettman.

He's mean and bad at his job.... and he takes his orders from David Stern.... And,, and he hates Canada..... And ,, , and um, he wears his underwear backwards.....

Silly NHL, only releasing a press release. The NHLPA releases a video to apologize to the fans.

Still equally empty...

Was there an apology in there somewhere?

Apology/Reason why this is happening and it isn't our fault. Same thing.

I think there's a HUGE difference between an apology and pointing the finger at the other guys!

You know, if the players came out and said "Look, we're sorry that we are doing this. This is our livelihood, and it is our right to do what is best for our futures. We accept part of the responsibility for this lockout.", then I would be much more sympathetic to their cause.

As much as I want to, as long as the players pretend that they are blameless in this entire situation, I can not support them.

Like this?

Fans. The players understand your frustration. But at the end of the day we are fighting for our futures, not yours. That's the reality
Unsurprisingly, he caught a lot of flak for that. Because there are a lot of casual fans who don't understand the business side of the game and simply blindly side with the players. The players seem damned if they do, damned if they don't.

That's one player. I was referring to the collective (hence why I said "We", not "I" in the quotes).

Both sides, the entire time, have blamed the other for everything that's happened. "Oh, we thought our offer was more than fair, but they disagreed. So they're to blame for the lockout". Siding against the players because they're doing the same thing the owners are doing doesn't make much sense.

And frankly, both sides have lied through their teeth as well. Claiming "We want to negotiate, but the other side doesn't", Bettman claiming the PA's proposal "didn't change", Fehr feigning ignorance as to why the league won't allow the players to play without a CBA and negotiate a new one (as if Fehr's history doesn't that obvious).

Expecting honesty in negotiations is a little much.

So, how long until the next meeting between the NHL and PA? Late September when preseason games are missed?

I didn't say I was siding against the players, I said that if they did X, I would be more sympathetic to their cause.

Official meeting? Probably late September. But apparently both sides have been in touch with each other, despite the lockout.

So that's something, I guess?

If there is one good thing about his lockout, it's the comedy that comes from it.
