I think Lovejoy could be had for a replacement 7th round pick we traded in the Vokoun deal.

Keep in mind, the draft is in Pittsburgh!

Neal has a slight edge with his quick release. And has the size advantage. But I'd argue Seto is just as physical (damn near Kunitz territory when he's on), is a much better skater and is a bit shiftier with the puck.

Having a linemate for Sid and a shot threat from the leftside on the PP, longterm, is a hell of an offseason move.
Which is why I think y'all are seriously underrating what it will take to get him from Minnesota. They need him probably more than we do.

Let's look at it another way... you're a GM of a lottery team... Ben Lovejoy is being waived... do you:

a) Say "Hey that's Ben Lovejoy; call the league office and stake the claim! We can slot him in 5/6/7"
b) Say "Hey that's Ben Lovejoy; he's no better than the rookies and prospects we have. Pass."
c) Say "WhoTF is Ben Lovejoy?"

It's vague enough that it could mean anything, even something as "minor" as trading Lovejoy or one of Bortuzzo or Strait.

I know we all hope (or most of us do) that it involves moving Paul Martin out, but I'm not sure Shero's there yet. He seems like a patient guy, so he might be giving Martin one more season to prove whether this past year was an anomaly or not.

Don't say that. We must believe the Ray is motivated to take bold action.

You are hereby granted an honorary banning for changing your mind in the span of 10 minutes. You already said Martin - Lovejoy.

I gave nothing but grief to PaulMart this past season, so if Shero does decide to keep him...I'm all in. I'm going to spew so much unfounded love and affection towards him and see if that changes things. The rage method certainly didnt work for me, so i figure i could try to change things up and see if that does the trick.

Instead of my normal sarcastic remarks everytime #7 would suck it up of "nice play, paul", maybe i can be sincere. just maybe...

I want it to be Martin/Lovejoy.

However I believe it's going to be Lovejoy-Strait/Bort.

Yep. I don't see them dealing him for anything short of Staal.

I say Lovejoy & Martin. Actually, I'll even dare to say that one of the teams acquiring one of them will be Minnesota.

Now that takes b*lls

Things everyone loves about Paul Martin:

1) Groomed to impeccable lesbian standards.
2) Scrambles a mean batch of eggs.
3) HF Members named after him.
4) Silky Smooth Poke-check (source: Kevin Weekes)
5) In very good shape / healthy / not obese (good spokesman for youth dietary habits)
6) Not a selfish a-hole who throws teammates under the bus
7) Does not cost $5.1M
8) Smooth skating, and positionally sound (right before he gets knocked on his ass)
9) Hits with the force of 100 croissants
10) Makes Justin Faulk look like Scott Stevens (oh wait that's from the OTHER list)
10) Highly professional in victory or defeat

"Staal hasn't asked to be traded"
Tuesday, 19 June 2012 14:07 Written By Dave MolinariI

Quote:
While Shero hopes he will not be forced to trade Staal, he acknowledged that he expects to trade a defenseman or two before next season, when the Penguins will have nine of them who would have to clear waivers to go to the American Hockey League.

"Plenty of other teams know I have nine waiver-eligible defensemen," he said. "They are calling about our defense."

Shero declined comment when asked if any of his veteran defensemen have been asked to waive no-trade or no-movement clauses in their contracts.

The Penguins either have extended, or will extend, qualifying offers to all of their significant restricted free agents. They include Matt Niskanen, Eric Tangradi, Keven veilleux, Brian Strait, Robert Bortuzzo, Alex Grant and Brian Sneep.
Quote:
Potential RFAs Mattias Modig, Boris Valabik, Casey Pierro-Zabotel and Alexandre Picard are not expected to receive qualifying offers and will become unrestricted.

also from the article

Shero said he has not had contract talks with any of the Penguins' unrestricted free agents, but sounded as if he will try to retain wingers Steve Sullivan and Arron Asham.

"Sullivan and Asham have been good players for us," he said. "We'll have to see exactly where we are after the draft."

Hmmm. Interesting quote there at the end. Does he mean they'll start to look at Sullivan and Asham after the draft, or after the draft we may have done something and won't need one and/or the other?

Hmmm...

I don't see what the draft could possibly have to do with either of those guys unless he plans on making trades this week / at the draft. That sounds like he believes there is a possibility the roster will be different after the draft than it is now, leaving him other options going into July 1. Certainly no one we DRAFT is going to replace Aaron Asham or Steve Sullivan this year. Not unless we trade up or a really good F falls for some reason, then has a lights out camp (something Shero can't know anyway).

I think that's about 99% "we might have more roster players in a few days" and 1% "we might trade up and draft a stud F who doesn't need any time in the minors." In which case you could say he replaces Sullivan, then they sign Asham. Certainly no one who projects as a bottom 6 guy is filling Aaron Asham's shoes.

The only way Lovejoy get's traded is if a team thinks its easier to trade a late round pick than it is to pay the waiver fee.

As for Staal moving to wing that is a big no. He just had his best year production wise at center. He can create offense while at center but on wing he seems like a hanger on. People need to get over the classic model of stacking the top 6 because you need at least three lines to roll regularly.
