Semin really is taking far too much of a beating on these boards and in the media. This isn't Nikolai Zherdev we're talking about here. Semin is a great player and whichever team acquires him is going to be better for having him. If most of the GM's around the league value Semin the way he's valued on these boards than some GM is going to end up with a great bargain.
zhredev could of gotten 35-40+ on the caps lol, SEMIN HAS HAD TWO STRAIGHT FAILURE OF A SEASONS
two 54 points season with 20 goal plateaus each year lol

People can't really be this daft. Semin put up 28 goals in 65 games in 2010-11 (that's a 35 goal pace btw.) He had one down year this year and you want to crucify him? Let's ignore that he's way better defensively than Ovechkin and actually puts effort into the backcheck. He's immature, and prone to lapses in judgement, but that's about it. He does put in a good effort most nights and on some nights he's absolutely unreal.
Since the lockout Semin has put up 386 points in 417 games and has 187 goals (.448 gpg.) One down year with injuries and a multiple philosophy changes by the coach where no one on the team was happy really doesn't make him a bad player. Whatever team signs this guy is going to be very happy.
Just gunna say...with all his vilification in the media as "lazy" or "heartless"....the guy has some tremendous play without the puck. I'd be very, very happy if the Canucks managed to get him here, I think in the limited number of Caps games I've seen him in, that his talent and effort can't be questioned, but he may just need a change of scenery.

I hope the Pens get Semin and if I was Shero, I would offer him a 5-6 year deal. Around 5mil a year.
With Malkin and Crosby feeding him passes on the powerplay when the goalie has to be wary of them on the other side; Semin would be lights out. He could hit 50 goals in a season on that up-tempo team on a line with Malkin and Neal.
If you sign him to a one year deal and he hits 50 goals, then you really owe him big money to keep him. I dont think he is this massive risk like a lot of people preach.
Pens would still have cap and assets to trade for a RW for Crosby.

As a Flyers fan, I'd show Semin the money on a two-year deal -- like, as high as a $7.5M AAV. Enough money that he'll get paid, but not enough of a term for him to get comfortable and slack off. Putting him on G's wing would be positively orgasmic. Those two would make sweet hockey magic together. While G has had his on-ice squabbles with Semin in the past and seemed to detest him, I think he'd be able to get over all that if it meant having a lethal goal-scorer on his wing.

I think you and I are the only two Pens fans who'd offer him more than a year. I'd have no problem giving him 4/5 years at up to 6 mil. Yeah, you're taking a chance, but if it works out you could have a 40 goal scorer for 6 mil or less.
Even if it doesn't work, you'll have a 20 goal scorer with a bad attitude. I think this team is close enough that one bad apple (even though I really don't think it'll come to that) won't impact the chemistry of the rest of the team.
As a bit of insurance, don't let him get a no movement clause. It would hurt to pay him playing in the minors, but atleast it wouldn't count against the cap. Give him some sort of limited no trade clause instead, where he can chose a few teams every year he's willing to go to.
I am having wild daydreams about Datsyuk and Semin playing together. *drool*
You were all convinced you had Parise and or Suter locked up...atleast Wings fans have a better approach than thinking they have it locked up for Semin.
