He will end up where we don't expect him.
I have a sneaking suspicion that while certain teams are blowing their loads on Parise and Suter, you're going to get a sneaky Semin contract.

It means that when he signs with Detroit, he instantly transforms from heartless, lazy, floater into a world-class sniper that with Datsyuk scores 40 goals, and has adequate two-way play..

I think Semin's agent would be wise enough to let parise sign first so that he can use the teams who missed on him to build a stronger market for Semin.

I think he might be surprisingly good for us. He is a kind of a player who plays his best hockey when he sees/feels that winning is possible. He is not the guy to create a team around. Such stuff is sometimes inherent for Russians. A perfect fit for a contender like Detroit... or for Pens or for Philly....

those are quite adequate predictions. First of all, an example of "heartless, lazy, floater" is Cam Barker. Semin plays a highly dynamic offensive game with some good backchecking on occasions. Furthermore, playing with Detroit he won't be requested to play too much D due to Datsyuk covering defensive zone. He does it for Franzen, so why not for Semin? Finally, yes, with a playmaker like Datsyuk he can score more than 30 goal per a season. He barely player with Backstrom in Washington so that his numbers are not that indicative. On top of that we all have seen (well, some of us) how he can play with a good playmaker -- just check the recent international tournaments he was involved in.

No, he won't. Semin is a strange character, and I believe that he will only sign for a select few teams.

Kostitsyn, Radulov and Semin should just start their own team.

In all likely hood I doubt it. I understand that most of the stereotypes around him are inflated, but unless he returned to his 40 goal (or damn close) scoring the first season with Sid or Geno at the salary Itd cost to have him I wouldn't be praising the signing.

Come to Carolina!

We'll offer you a 3 year, 18 million dollar contract!

Our RW depth is god awful, so you won't have any competition!

You get to play with Eric Staal, a center who can finish and dish it out better than any of the talentless bums you had to play with before!

And most importantly, you get 6 opportunities a year to stick it to the Caps! Imagine Ovechkin crying softly as the memories of you dekeing through his legs continue to haunt him! Feel the bitterness as McPhee thinks "Damn. I should have kept him." Come for the opportunity to keep the Caps out of the playoffs!!

That is decent PR.

Although his career numbers came with Backstrom and he passes a lot better than Staal. Although it would be interesting to see Staal if he decided because of talent around him he didn't need to be shoot first all the time.

He'll go somewhere Russian friendly. If your team is run by some old school no-nonsense Canadian/doesn't have a notable Russian on the roster forget it.

I would line it up like this:

Ruutu / E. Staal / Tlusty
Skinner / J. Staal / Semin

That would be sick.

I could see Semin going to somewhere like the Predators or Rangers if not the KHL

They (Ovie the other) were his most frequent linemates in his career season of 84 points.

http://redlinestation.blogspot.com/2...der-semin.html

They were also together in 08-09 for a good chunk of time. 79 point season in 62 games. Guess that might be the career season either way it is those are the big two.

Or Washington? President's, 4 straight division. I've seen enough of Semin. He's way too one dimensional for the contract he wants. He's good for 40 games and every other playoff series and doesn't fight through injury. He has a terrible reputation with Refs. Enjoy.
