Backlund and J-Bo On Trading Block

http://flamesnation.ca/2012/6/18/dre...r-on-the-block

Quote:
The Calgary Flames have a new coaching staff and a willingness to consider all trade scenarios not including Jarome Iginla or Miikka Kiprusoff.

Like most teams, the Flames are looking for a Top 6 forward - ideally, a centre. Mikael Backlund and Jay Bouwmeester are among those the Flames would trade. But with two years remaining at a whopping $6.7 million per season, Bouwmeester is going to be a tough sell.
For the right return, I'd like to see Bouwmeester gone. I've had it with him. That's just me tho. Backlund we should not be giving up on just yet. I'd like to see what he can do playing with Baerstchi next year.

I'd like to see what both can do next season with a better head coach. On the other hand, if there was a deal where one or both of them could be parlayed into a top flight centre, you would have to consider moving them. But I don't see that happening so it's better just to keep them.

Basically agree with you. I know everyone freaks out about how important J Bo is but **** it Kipper can stand on his head, he does with J Bo in the line up to anyway.

Thats what we said when Sutter came in, we have been "seeing" what this team can do the last 3 years.

I'd be willing to part with either of them if it meant moving into the top 10 at the draft.

This was on tsn, just talking about movement this offseason, practically just speculation by TSN.
I highly doubt Boumeester gets moved because of that contract and I don't think backlund will go anywhere unless it's part of a package.
This is the article that had this same info in it:

Dreaming. There is no way any team takes either of these players and parts with a top 10 pick.

Both have only played for Sutter that is ****** logic. Jbo and Stajan have both been misused by the previous coaching staff why not give them a shot its not like either have high value on the trade market any (compared to what they would have if they had a good season this year)

Yeah, no. Both Bouwmeester and Backlund started their careers as Flames in Brent Sutter's 'system'; we haven't seen what either can really do here.

I like Duchene and all, but good god that's a lot to give up, given the Flames' assets.

I don't think the difference between 10-14 is all that great. I used to favor trading up but now I'm thinking Calgary can get someone just as good at the 14th spot.

I'd pass personally he is a great player but we can't afford to give away that many assets would rather do something for Stasny as I don't think he would cost as much.

Flames fans saying no to "Bouw, Backlund, 14th for Duchene"?

Am I missing something here?

EDIT: Apparently I am definitely missing something.....what is it?

I like him alot but he just had a very bad season and we can't afford to give up a top 2 defenseman and the 14th to get good centerman. If we got a defenseman back in the deal as well than I would do it.

And Colorado laughs at that proposal, no way they give up duchene for anything let alone an overpaid defenceman, an have no need for backlund since they have O Reilly, and the only thing of value to them is the first.

What do you see Duchene as? I see him as a 70-80 point player I also see Backlund as a 40-50 point center then Jbo is a number 1 defenseman (could be argued number 2) and the 14th I hope is Ceci who I see as a top 4 defenseman so

#2 defenseman + potential top 4 defenseman + potential #2 center for potential first line player.

Has to be for the right price.

Trading for the sake of trading = Phaneuf return.

I'd like Stastny.

Him and Bouwmeester have a relatively similar value in the NHL now, both have two years left on bloated contracts, and the past two years have been under producing. Colorado needs a defencemen to eat up minutes, Calgary needs a top line center.

It seems like a win-win for each team.
Colorado CANNOT accept anything outside of similar digits coming back their way. They are ridiculously low on the cap scale, even when they sign the half dozen RFA's they have, they'll still be incredibly low... with more or less the same team.

Cammi - Stastny - Iginla
Tanguay - Cervenka - Glencross (This is a responsible line, unless Cervenka really can't carry his weight)
Bartschi - Backlund - X (X being a FA, or one of the many kids we have in the system)

I don't buy it. Bouwmeester eats a whole lotta minutes. But oh well, we might as well start the proposals.

Jbow + Backlund to Oilers for either Maricin or Klefbom + Smid

Only way I'm okay with Bouwmeester being moved is if we get the 5th overall pick in return from the Islanders and pick Reinhart. Sure we'll be ****ed short term, but we potentially lose Bouwmeester in 2 years for nothing if he walks as a UFA. Better move him now than later.

We'd also have to go retardedly hard after one of Coliacovo, Wideman, Rozsival, Carle, Garrison, and even possibly go for more than one. Plus probably a stop gap guy like Aucoin, Kubina, Kuba, keep one of Sarich or Hannan, Salvador, Gill, Souray.

Cause if we move Bouw our D looks like the following:

Gio-Blank
Butler-Blank
Brodie-Smith

So if we can get one from each category of defenseman, or get another via trade for Backlund, then I'm okay with it in the short term, since it benefits in the long term.

Personally I'm really hoping for Coliacovo and/or Rozsival to play with Gio.
