LOL @ people who always say we don't have the pieces to deal for a quality player. That being said, I'm glad Nash is off the market.

Not a huge fan of Nash but... REALLY?

That's ALL Columbus got for him? What a terrible, terrible return.

This is like the Phaneuf trade.

howson is just setting himself up for a job in new york when he will be fired. League should review this trade. Or maybe gift would be the correct term.

not a great package but consider this:

nash overpaid, not out of his prime but...
howson, who's incompetent painted into a corner because of no -trade clause
howson won't trade him within div. where some of nash's team preferences played
ericsson is a very solid prospect

And, NYR get to keep young forwards like Kreider and Stepan. Wow. Who counselled Scott Howson here? Gainey and Gauthier?

In all fairness to BG and PG, Howson is more in Mike Milbury territory after this.

Columbus just took it in the ass by the Rangers.
Sather may horrible at dishing out contracts but he's done a very solid jobs with trades.

Got McDonaugh for Gomez and now gave up literally second tier players for Nash!

NYR have to be cup favourites!

This trade makes what Ottawa got for Heatly seem less mediocre....

There must have been some bad offers if that package got the deal done and not to mention CBJ having to add. Seems to me Nash would only accept a trade to the Rags if that's all it took.

Un-****ING-real. For once I'm happy to be a Habs fan today. What a joke of a trade.

Quantity over quality...It baffles me how the habs haven't been able to make these kind of trades in the past decades always being in the opposite side receiving all the garbage and being mocked by other NHL teams....Why can't it ever be the freaking Canadiens?

I want to say Howson didn't do that bad, but there's nothing to back up that argument. Anisimov has potential and is getting better but no guarantees he'll be anything better than a 2nd line center. Dubinsky is in the same boat. Erixon is a no sure thing either. In a deal like this, you have to AT LEAST get a player back that has 1st line potential. They didn't even come close.

It would have helped if Nash actually listed the habs as a team he'd go to. That might have helped a bit..

Seriously.

We have far too many mediocre players and too few "stars", and Nash is just another that's been given up for similar "mediocre players" like ones we have.

We are not yet in a position to give up to take a player like Nash, but the failure to acquire Hossa in 2008 still rings quite strong in my mind where a mediocre player was the "deal breaker" on the Habs side.

Clearly.

There has been other players traded for spare parts over the years as well though. I believe this is what he was eluding to.

There's still a star available by the name of Semin that actually fills up a hole, yet he's being snobbed.

No one can ever argue that winning is the Rangers #1 priority. Always.

Unlike us...

It just baffles me that so many Habs fans want to sell whatever assets we have to ensure we are bad enough to get another potential first line player while they are afraid to give up nothing but money for a proven first line player.

I am quite aware of that don't worry. It's just been pathetic how the habs have handled many situations where they had the opportunity to land a star player. We just never hear about the habs being one of the teams hustling to get one of these star players. Montreal being one of the biggest hockey markets, it's simply not acceptable to not be in these races.

Is anyone else annoyed that New York is able to have Nash, Richards, Gaborik, Callahan, Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Del Zotto and Lundqvist on their team and still have a lower cap hit than us?

My goodness we were annihilated by previous management.

I'd love to land Semin?

He'd be our most talented forward and would instantly replace what we lost (and upgrade it) when we traded Cammalleri.

Bury Gomez like they buried Redden and there you go... Of course, we won't do this.

Nash is probably overrated, but a line with he, Gaborik and Richards... scary!
