I was actually against the hurricanes because their cup win just seemed like a slap to the face of the Hartford faithful.

I'm over it now. It is what it is.

Stupid lousy southern oriented relocation era...

Are the walls melting when you come up with something like this. This sounds like an acid trip prediction.

The Ducks don't need a goaltender right now. They need some more scoring, because right now they're a one-line team.

Good! Here's hoping they're dumb enough to stay that way.

Anaheim's second line isn't too shabby; Selanne outscored Heatley from the Ducks' second line.

So does anyone think that we trade Backstrom at the draft? Or roll with harding/backs till Hackett takes over? This signing opens up all sorts of possibilities.

I'd say Backstrom stays for another year.

Probably his last one though.

The earliest Backs is moved is the trade deadline. Russo kind of cleaned up any rumors of him moving at the draft. Fletch didn't sign Hards in order to move Backs.

I'm very happy for Harding. The guy is so loyal to the organization that he probably has the Wild song lyrics tattooed on his body somewhere, and he should be rewarded a little IMO. I also don't think the contract is bad for either side.

This also probably spells the end for Backstrom, and depending on the circumstances sets the Wild up nicely for the trade deadline. The Wild will either trade Backstrom this year or extend him on a 1 year deal depending on what happens. Smart play by GMCF in my opinion.

If Backs is gone during/after this season, I'm curious to see how much playing time they'll give Hackett. Will it be a total 1a/1b split where each guy plays half the games or will it be more of a tandem like what we have now where we have a definitive no. 1 but we'll still play the hot goalie?

#9 - #9 - #9
#15 - #7 - #64
#48 - #21 - #10

That first line would get confusing...

I don't think Backs will be traded, just because we can't count on either Backs or Harding to stay healthy the entire year. It's nice knowing we now have Hackett willing and waiting but he should season up a bit more in the AHL, at least another year. No sense in rushing a potential #1 goalie.

The only chance I see us trading Backstrom is for a deal with Burke to swap our #7 and his #5 if Forsberg / Galchenyuk / Grigorenko are all gone.... not sure that is even possible but we'll see in a few days.

Cliff notes **** Backstrom plays out his last year on his Wild contract in MN

Why not throw Hackett into the fire right away? If he's as good as advertised, he should be able to take the #1 spot from Harding without working up a sweat...

Ummm. . . . . do you know how development works? If we throw him in right away and he plays poorly, how do you think that's going to affect his confidence?

Well if we want confidence builders, lets just pencil Hackett in for all the Eddy, Calgary, and Columbus games then whoever else seems to be suffering key injuries.

Being with the Aeros will also help Hackett build chemistry with our upcoming prospects - many of which will be playing in the AHL next season.

Fletcher

“We have no interest in trading Backstrom. None,” Wild GM Chuck Fletcher told the StarTribune this afternoon. “When we were on top of the league [in the first 30 games] last year, a big part of the reason was our goaltending tandem. There’s no reason for us to want to change that up. Why not bring them back? The future will be the future. Everything will work itself out. When Josh indicated he was willing to stay, we worked quickly to get it done.”

As long as Harding is playing Detroit four times per year, all is well.

Maybe it'll teach him that he's not Marty Brodeur with the puck and he should just let his defensemen handle it instead of doing it himself.
