I know that three way trades are pretty rare, but I was just thinking about these three teams and how they can help each other out.

To Pittsburg
5th overall
Omark

To Toronto
1st Overall
Peckham

To Edmonton
Gardiner
Staal (signed)

Pittsburg: Gives up a solid second line center on any other team. Drafts some defensive help in whoever falls to 5th between Reinhart and Murray and gets a winger that has a ton of potential and needs to play in the top 6

Toronto: Gives up an up a solid d-man and the 5th overall. Gets their star winger (yakapov) and someone to fill in their bottom pairing on D with size and toughness (a Burke favourite requirement).

Edmonton: Gives up a star forward, a winger with a ton of potential and a bottom pairing d-man. Fills a defensive hole and gets some size in their top 6 (also potentially helps to secure signing schultz on July 1)

I think there is some tweaking that could happen (upgrade peckham to gagner, add a pick here or there) but I think this deal could work.

Yeah, no. Stop dragging the Pens into this, just hash this Gardiner/Schenn to move up to 1st thing out between yourselves.

Gardiner + 5th overall....

Pittsburgh and Toronto say no. The difference between what will likely be Yakupov -> Galchenyuk/Forsberg/Murray is not Gardiner and Pittsburgh would rather deal Staal for a similarly talented winger if he is dealt i doubt they'd be interested in a pick that is 3-5 years away.

Ray Shero does not value fancy, undersized, grit-averse, minor league Europeans or players who complain publicly about unfair treatment (the last one to do that was banished to the ECHL until his contract expired).

Since we've now established that Omark is worth absolutely nothing to Pittsburgh, the trade is Staal for the 5th, to acquire a defenseman who will be useful in 3 years. Not only is that not enough, but Pittsburgh is trying to win now, not in 3 years and already HAS three such players as you're suggesting they need in the pipeline.

He's worth more than a 5th and Omark. That's for sure.

For Edmonton to get Staal I'd say there isn't a deal that could be done. Maybe in a 3-way but it depends on the teams.

Carolina apparently are going to offer/have offered Sutter + Faulk + 1st Round 2012.

You totally forgot to put something about "OMG, ONLY ONE YEAR" in there as well. *snooze*

Let's just get over this already. 5th+ Omark is absolutely no deal ever and there is really not much from Edmonton you could add to it to make it one.

I think maybe once they've taught him to skate they're going to convert Peckham to that big aggressive playmaking centre they need.

Thats why they hired Barb Underhill didn't cha'know

Dubinsky would be cheaper and is just as effective with all this hype Staal has, heck Gagner is capable of playing defence, dropping the mitts and accumulating more points than Staal.
