The All Things Parise Thread (Part IV)

"So Zach, I hear you want 8 million a year."
"Yeah, that's about right."
"How do you even spend 7 million again? I get it that being rich is great, but I think that even the 6 million you're asking is more than enough to live on."

If I may, this post is worth a gander. Warning, not necessarily good news for NJD.

Plenty of fans of teams who are interested in Parise like that team's chances of signing him.

According to the trade board, we're trading his rights to Dallas or Colorado.

If he goes to Minnesota, it's for money only. No Wild fan will convince me otherwise, so don't even attempt it with "our great prospect pool"

I just want a decision already. Enough of this crap. Either we continue loving him and he becomes the next legendary New Jersey Devils captain....or we say Bon Voyage! Good luck and good riddance!

Well you likely won't get one until July 1.

Or if he takes the Kovy path, minus arbitration hearing, a bit longer.

Personally, I hate the mad dash on 7/1. Wish it was more like other sports. If you're going to sign your career away for 7-12 years, take your time, have a Mojito, smoke a cigar.

I posted this weekend in the other thread ...I put it I heard it from a friend who heard it from.....
This post is accurate from what I had told to me. As I said I'm less confident than I was before. Minnesota is not the only offer that has been relayed thru Zachs dad..Was told a bunch of old friends have contacted JP telling him what their "friends" are thinking.
The Devils numbers so far have not come close to what else is being conveyed. Now 10 days out this doesnt mean anything. I didn:t hear anything on his rights or that he favored Minnesota over any other non jersey spot ,just that Minnesota was not the only offer to be expected and they know the general numbers already,

Everything being equal I still make the devils the favorites , she still wants to say but they are less confident now that things will be equal.

Well it's going to happen. I see the Wild throwing the most at him. If he wants to be a Devil, it looks like he will need to turn down a ton of cash. doesn't seem too positive from our end.

Fine by me if he chases the money cause I sure as hell don't want to offer him anything near that. Isn't worth it.

No way would I go over 8+ for 8 years.

The NJD will obviously be a better team in the next few years keeping him, but if he's looking for 8.5ish that hurts us big time in the long-run.

Easily.

I'd rather have Suter at 8+ than Zach at 8+

2. His representation doesn't feel the Devils are in the right ball park or will even get near it in terms of a contract.

If all this is valid, I don't know if this is comforting to me or is reason for worry.

I assume the Devils are ready to offer a contract slightly above what most of us are comfortable with. If his agents do not believe the Devils are in the right ballpark in terms of a contract... who is?

We know he wants to play for a contender. But contenders typically don't get to where they are by handing out terrible contracts.
Kovy was our anomaly, but when a Kovalchuk is on the line... you're forced to make that gamble. Parise is not of the same caliber.

Detroit's been our biggest worry, but off the top of my head, I can't think of a bad contract on that team. I don't see them starting now.
Minnesota will throw the bank at him, but they don't seem to meet the rest of Parise's requirements.
Boston & Chicago don't have the cap space.
Pittsburgh is a year or two from cap hell.
Nashville is too tied up in handling their own Suter & Weber situation.
The Rangers will throw something absurd, and we may or may not believe his "no way", but if they do... they probably won't add in a NMC/NTC which will most likely be a requirement.

So who has the cap space, the physical money, the balls to put together an extensive contract and the ability to be an immediate contender?

If Colorado or Tampa can prove they'll be contenders, they might be darkhorses.

St. Louis might try to make a splash with a new owner. They have the cap space, solid roster and shown they can make a pretty good run. I don't know if he'll want to fall back into a defensive system, though.

Los Angeles seems like the biggest overall threat. They play a similar system, they have the space and the money... they also just won the Cup. Will he go to the team that just beat him?

this was lengthy... oops.
