I doubt it. I see Semin as someone who wants to win. Semin cant be the superstar on a team, but he is a great 1B

I know, I think it's nutty too, just figured it was worth sharing.
I know Lou never trades rights... but yes, please

Agreed I am annoyed the extension talks were placed on the backburner for so long!

His agents are grimey ****s!

I don't think we could get that much for Parise's rights. I actually wouldn't mind Lehtonen though.

I just don't think Semin is worth what he was paid his last contract. Likely Carolina, or one of those places would offer him the most.

Didn't Semin take consecutive 1 year deals for the last 2 seasons with Wash? I definitely believe that he could've gotten a long term deal with a "perennial loser" for much more money instead of staying with the Caps and trying to win a Cup with that core. Heck, he could've bolted to the KHL, made more money annually than any of his fellow Russians here, and become a rockstar back home. But, he's still here. That shows me that he wants to win in the best league in the world, just like Kovy.

But Kovy has a much better overall skill set and never played for a contender. WSH has been in it to win it for the past few seasons.

Obviously

But if the choice is Semin at 6 Mil or Zach at 8-8.5, I take Semin quite easily

Zach is better than Semin, but his price is ridiculous if over 7.5

I think that might drive Semin even more. He was close to winning it, soo now he wants it even worse

You two are really doing a number on me. Almost have me convinced

You're like two girl scouts trying to sway me to buy Thin Mints when I really want Samoas but you're sold out.

If Parise is anywhere near 8.5 we're all in a heap of trouble. I understand he's the captain of the team, I get that he's got a nonstop motor, etc. I understand ALL of that stuff. What I look at objectively as a fan of the TEAM not just individuals is that while Kovy gets all the "he didnt produce in the playoffs, he was a no show in the finals" etc, Zach seemingly doesn't get any of that. Kovy outproduced him in the playoffs while missing a game and being less than 100%. Do I love Zach? Yeah, but at what price? We've got a ton of pieces to take care of in the next year or two (Teddy, Josefsson, Henrique, Fayne, Elias, Zubrus, etc). So if Zach gets a long term contract for an annual caphit of around Kovalchuk fine, but if he's going to command a salary of 7.5+ in my eyes we need to let him go for the sake of the franchise. Don't get me wrong here, I love the guy and what he brings. He's the heart and soul of the team, but we wouldn't be in the doldrums of the league if he left (regardless of last years outcome). That money can be used in other places.

Nope, just more talented. You`re underestimating Semin and I`m not even a fan of his.

Parise had no desire to stay here last year at this time. Much has changed in a year.

If you sign Semin in place of Parise you are upgrading the offense but also undeniably downgrading the PK.

I realize this is all just hypothetical.

His agent does live in NJ. I'm sure he has nice things to say about it.

So.. none of Lou, Holland or Lombardi are prone to handing out absurd contracts too far beyond what a player is worth.

Realistically, who out there can meet both Parise's contract demands AND his desire to play for an immediate contender? And who of those has the cap space/money to actually sign him?

I don't know. Kovalchuk was coached by a legendary defensive forward.

Although not on Parise's level, Semin is actually solid on the PK.

Defense isn't Semin's issue. Even with how much Kovy has improved his two way game, it is not on Semin's level. His passion and effort need to meet expectations though.
