Subban? Really, they think we need another goaltender...
Well, with one of Luongo or Schneider on the move and Lack potentially coming up into the bigs as a back-up, that really leaves us with Joe Cannata. Despite his impressive college resume, he is pretty well untested at the pro level. After him it's David Honzik, who has been anything but inspiring since being drafted.
Schneider was drafted eight years ago, and Lack was signed almost three years ago - it takes a while to develop goaltenders. So drafting Subban now might be a shrewd move to plan for the future. I wouldn't be disappointed with him, but this is all just my opinion.
EDIT: I think the bigger surprise is that they foresee Grigorenko falling all the way to 17th. I highly doubt that.
Did they talk about why? Or did they not put any analysis into their presentation
Pretty much said that with the recent goalie situation, it would make sense for us to draft and develop a goalie. Also stated that Subban would probably be the starting goalie for Team Canada in the WJHC which would be a a great development stage for any goalie.
Canucks are not going to pick Subban. Lack was a free agent and Cannata was a late round pick. Why in the world would we consider picking a goalie in the 1st round given that it won't become a problem for us for another 10+ years?

Agreed on both the goalie situation, and Grigorenko going earlier than 17....Although if Tom Wilson is still around when we pick then the goalie thing can wait in my opinion.
if the canucks spend a first round pick on a goalie this year i will flip my ****. dumbest thing ever. that's not even good value as subban is rated late first/early second anyway. if he was a top 15 rated prospect then maybe you could justify it. mcguire you're an idiot.

Maybe so we can make a deal for RNH and Yakupov in 7 years when Edmonton still hasn't sorted out their ****show organization.

I don't necessarilly disagree that we won't pick Subban, but at the same time - having Schneider has sure given us a massive bargaining chip in spite of having an all-world goaltender in Luongo. Having another prime-pedigree prospect such as Subban coming down the pipe may not be all that bad.
On another note, who did TSN have us picking last year in the Mock Draft?

The problem is that Lack will be ready in 2 years. Cannata in 4-5 years. That's a huge waste of a 1st round pick. When we drafted Schneider we had no good goalies in the system.
