Denis Savard After '93 Cup Win

I don't remember much around this but remember a lot of the team was close knit back then, what happened with Savard afterwards when he signed with TB?
Habs didn't want him back? TB offered more $?

You're thinking of 40-goal scorer Brian Bellows, traded to the Lightning for Marc Bureau.

Savard was slowing down and constantly hurt. He didn't do much in the 1993 playoffs. Montreal simply dumped him. Probably one of those "future considerations" trades that turned out to be nothing. A great way of turning Norris winner Chris Chelios into nothing.

Feel free to fill in some blanks below...

How They Got Rid of '93 Cup Winners:

Roy - awful Thibault trade
Racicot - mercifully not re-signed

Desjardins - traded to PHI in Leclair-for-Recchi trade
Schneider - traded to NYI with Muller for Turgeon / Malakhov
Odelein -
Haller -
Daigneault -
Brisebois - free agent to Colorado?
Ramage - ??? was only a rental
Dufresne - not good enough to play anywhere else
Hill - to ANA in expansion draft?

Muller - traded to NYI for Turgeon
LeClair - traded to PHI for Recchi
Bellows - dumped to TB for Marc Bureau
Damphousse - eventually dumped to SJ for a draft pick (Marcel Hossa)
Lebeau - traded to ANA for backup goalie Ron Tugnutt
Keane - stupidly included in Roy trade
Dionne - included in Leclair/Desjardins trade to Philly
DiPietro - traded to TOR for a 5th/6th round pick
Leeman -
Brunet - traded to DAL with Rucinsky for Donald Audette
Carbonneau - dumped to St Louis for Jim Montgomery
Ronan -
Savard - dumped to TB for nothing
Belanger - to FLA in the expansion draft?
Ewen -
Roberge -

Stanley Cup Champion, Andre Racicot
Sounds weird and always will

Same with Stanley Cup Champion, Ken Wregget
The two "Red Lights"

Haller -
Daigneault - traded for Pat Jablonski
Brisebois - free agent to Colorado? Yup, option not exercised
Ramage - ??? was only a rental

Savard was useless after that cup and Bellows was done and slower then molasses. They were brought in to win the cup that year, some helped more then others but we got the cup. Stop your whining

Savard over Dionne

Savard was not done. He needed to play with someone who could shoot. After the cup the team thought his linemate Gilbert Dionne was awesome and dumped Savard. Savard went on to have a few more productive years while Dionne whined and sucked. And *****ed about teammates like Leclaire who were miles better than he was (Dionne that is, not Savard).

Savard was injured during the 93 playoffs and instead went behind the bench to help motivate the players. (much like Komisarek did the year before he was traded.) Savard was at the end of his career anyway.

That is sad, really, turning a storied franchise into a laughing stock. Thank heavens for Koivu. To fill in a couple more Ewen was traded to Anaheim I believe (not sure for whom/what). And Mario Roberge became a Newfoundland Senior League legend, not sure if he made any pit stops before that.

He went behind the bench but he was not injured. Demers said it was one of the worst decision he has had to make but he thought the team would be better without Savard in the line-up.

I watched that game last night, it's clearly announced that he had an ankle injury

I often wondered if the guy was really a healthy scratch. Demers was too classy to embarass him, so he had an "ankle injury". His ankle didn't look hurt when he ran over to steal the cup out of Carbonneau's hands. I still haven't forgiven him for that.

Savard was only 32 when they won the cup, so he should have had a lot left in the tank. But letting him go for nothing was definitely the right decision. He was done. Muller and Lebeau were far better centres that year. Too bad Serge Savard (and Reggie Houle) chose to dismantle the rest of the team as well, for very little in return.

You could see Savard hobbling at some points with a huge smile wearing his suit on the ice
Carbonneau waved him over, Muller and a couple others pushed him ahead to lift the cup after Carbonneau.
The first ones to embrace on the bench were Savard was Demers
Savard was carried on shoulders alongside the SC on one occasion
I don't buy any conspiracy theories about being benched based on all the reactions I saw
