WJC Discussion- Wikstrand Watch!

Surprised there is no thread aside from the pool one about the WJC.

Only 1 sens prospect and that's 7th rounder Dman for Sweden, should be getting top 4 minutes and power play time.

Canada loses pre touring game to Finland 3-2

Sweden vs USA on TSN at 1230 starting right now.

Pretty impressed with what I've seen from Wikstrand thus far.

Good skater with smooth pivots and appears very confident with the puck. Crisp pass and has hit guys in full stride. Has used his body to separate players from the puck. Playing with confidence.

edit: some heady fakes on the blue line on the PP.

Looks like he tries his best to be OEL. First impression is I really can't complain about his effort to do so.

Sweden didn't use Hampus Lindholm on the PP in practices. Looks like Vikstrand will be their man on special teams.
Nice.

Its only 1 period but he looks really really good, great patience, good hands, great reach with his size and QBs a power play nicely, just seems to always make the perfect play and reliable in his own net. That last play in the PK where he just uses his reach to get the puck out of the boards.

Moves the puck very smartly, liking what I'm seeing

Good to see him playing PK on top of running Sweden's powerplay.

Surprised he doesn't have that many assists back in the SEL2, almost all of his shots are on net with a rebound

I think he's put on full display this game why he's doing what he's doing in the Allsvenskan so far. Certainly making a case early on that he's no fluke.

Plays a slick game.

Just know that this observation carries more weight than a hockeydb hit.

That was ripped. 3-2 US in OT

Wikstrand looked good in the little I saw of this game.

Most convenient style comparison is easily OEL for me. No holes in his game on this night really.

Ahh, the signature Karlsson shot.

Nice to see another Swedish defenseman prospect of ours know how to do it.

That's so ironic considering that the Sens have a Top-3 prospects pool

Our top 5 prospects are over 20 plus no luck with injuries, lockout and suspensions this year.

Noesen was a lock for the top 6
Zibby as well
Puempel got injured right before camp, he would have got the spot over Drouin.
Ceci not invited for some reason
