It's the Canucks or the Swedish Elite League for #Canucks 1st round pick Niklis Jensen next season.

Junior teams in Canada like Oshawa should be concerend about Niklis Jensen decision. Some 19 year old's need to play pro at 19.

Interesting. This has no hindrance on whether Jensen will play for the Canucks some day, mind you - this is just what he and his agent feel is the best step for his development, as he is not allowed to play in the AHL due to the CHL's age restrictions.

Could be VERY good for his development... if he doesn't make the Canucks, he can't be called up again once sent down... so no one should consider this a shunning of the canuck organization please.

Not a terrible decision by Jensen. Get into the pros faster one way or another and it's not like he doesn't want to be a Canuck.

Only concern I'd have would be ice-time in the SEL.

Agree on all counts. Shrewd move from Jensen and his agent, actually - a workaround of the CHL's (rather silly) rule about under-20s not being allowed to play in the AHL.

I like it. He gets to play with the pros a year earlier.

Definitely a step up for his development, although I would be concerned about him receiving 5 minutes per game with 4th liners. If he can get consistent ice time in a role suited to his strengths, then it could be very good.

I like it, as long as he stays committed to the NHL down the road...

Is this a 1 year thing? You'd think he'd want to get back to the AHL when eligible.

I'm not too concerned about that - he acquitted himself very well in his brief showings in Chicago this year, so I think he's got the skill and the moxie to be an impact player for whichever team he signs with.

Speaking of Jensen, anyone here if he's fully recovered from his concussion?

Big money isn't exactly SEL's forte. If this were the KHL, I'd be concerned, but the SEL is a pretty low-budget league.

This would be terrible for his development. He's better off playing another year in the OHL than playing in the SEL.

So too big for Junior, not quite ready for the AHL, go to the SEL?

Does the SEL burn a year on his ELC? D:

I would rather see him play a year in the SEL than another year in the OHL. Better development IMO, He'll get stronger by playing with full grown men instead of 18 year olds. Then next year he can come back and play for the wolves.

Apparently if he plays in SEL, he would still owe a year on his ELC to the Canucks.

Isn't that the league where Rodin got like 3 mins a game? Will that happen to Jensen?

Rodin played for Brynas, right? that teams' management picks huuuge favorites, As long as Nicklas goes to a good organization, he'll be fine.

Why can you not play in the AHL until you're 20, but you can play in the NHL as a teenager?
