I wonder how many times Poile thought about Scott Stevens over the last few days?

thats true and its widely accepted the he has been barely hanging on. was it not solid talk tht he would be benched in that finals for such poor play?

Kane considering a 29m,6 year deal. I thought we were gonna see Doughty like crap from him.

He was put under the immense pressure of unrealistic expectations. Vancouver fans thought they were getting Hasek or Brodeur, and wouldn't accept anything less.

Honestly, how would your mental state be if you were consistently bashed by your hometown 'fans' after accomplishing what he'd accomplished in Vancouver?

With the Preds keeping Weber does this mean we will be subjected to year after year of Weber, or his agent(s), pissing and moaning in the press about wanting to be traded?

It would be funny if we did, because with the amount of cash NSH is going to be forced to pay him by July 1 next year they'd have little reason to even consider trading him until, like, halfway through the deal.

Flyer fans have one of the most brutal summers in recent memory: brutal draft (fans were screaming for Oli Maata and they passed on him), brutal loss of JVR to the Leafs, and now this brutal Weber tease. I'm loving it!

Yes it is extremely enjoyable to revel in Philly Fan misery. Those tools deserve everything they get.

Something like simple economics has never stopped players and their agents from pissing and moaning in the past.

The only thing that sucks about the weber match is somewhere there is a happy pens fan.

Pittsburgh and Shero haven't made much of an impact either. Lost Staal, traded away one of their better dman and signed a bunch of grinders.

Honestly, as a Caps fan, you can't be that bummed at the offseason if Pittsburgh traded Michalek to make cap room for Suter.

Aside of the Rangers, most of our chief Eastern opponents stayed roughly even or slightly worse.

Pittsburgh lost in the first round with a healthy Crosby (though maybe not 100%, who knows). Then they lost Michalek while not bringing anything significant in to replace him on defense. They didn't add another scoring winger and regressed at 3C (though Sutter is still an excellent 3C option with upside).

Philadelphia marginally improved their defense (Schenn, Gervais) but lost two skilled wingers (Jagr, JVR). Their fate still rests chiefly on the shoulders of Bryzgalov, but now with a goaltender with way less potential behind him (Leighton instead of Bobrovsky). Honestly, if I'm a Flyers fan, having Leighton as my back-up is the most infuriating move of the Summer.

Boston lost Thomas but still has his cap hit floating around (not that this salary cap is actually capping anyone right now). Otherwise they're essentially the same team we beat last year, aside of Horton should be healthy (cleared for contact today) and Zanon is gone.

New Jersey lost their captain and best player in Parise and is still relying on the geriatric goaltending duo of Brodeur and Hedberg. And raise your hand if you think Clarkson scores 30 goals or Elias reaches 78 points again this upcoming season.

Some borderline contenders reshaped their roster a bit. Buffalo will likely be healthier than last year, but somehow managed to get even thinner at center after shipping Roy to Dallas. Carolina obviously improved up front with the addition of Jordan Staal, but they still have plenty of holes. They're thin at forward and most of their wingers are pretty marginal. They need pretty good efforts from a lot of young guys (Dalpe, Bowman, Boychuk) if they want to contend. And their defense has given up the most shots in the league two straight seasons, and their biggest change was replacing Bryan Allen with Joe Corvo. Tampa added some names to their defense, but really had to break out the check book to do so. And neither Carle nor Salo are known for shutting down opponents. Biggest change is adding Lindback in net.

When you look at what happened to most of the East, it really isn't that bad of an off-season. Obviously Semin and Doan's decisions could still change that, but I'm more optimistic than I was.
