JS Aubin makes 63 saves!

Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 63 saves for the St. John's Maple Leafs tonight. He made 47 saves last night on 48 shots. That's 110 saves on 114 shots in back-to-back nights against Syracuse.

He's now 6-2, with 2 shutouts, 1.74 GAA and a .957 Save%.

How a team can allow 66 shots on goal in a league like the AHL is beyond horrible. Syracuse sucks as well.

The funny part is, Syracuse still lost.

Big game for Aubin.

Aubin was always great in the AHL.
Too bad he can't do the same in the NHL.

Molleken really helped Aubin turn his game around last year, maybe for good. He played some of the best hockey of his career in the NHL last season.

Actually, his NHL record looks a lot better than his AHL record.

Seabass has NHL talent without question, I just hope his mental game (by far his greatest flaw, and it can be a major one) can stay consistent, he tends to let bad goals get to him. I do think he's a better goalie than Tellqvist as well.

Is Tellqvist now officially backup or do they share the job?

Share, Aubin was brought in when Tellqvist was out. At least now Telly has some competition for the spot.

Tellqvist is such a dissapointment... I don't think he'll ever be more then a back-up at NHL level.

I've been very tough on Aubin the past few years but he definitely impressed me last year. Had the best stats of any Penguin goalie.

How so?

I take it you've seen him play more than I... ?

Because, he certainly hasn't been a disappointment to me.

Aubin got abused pretty bad in Pittsburgh, supposedly a lot from Barrasso. I thought he was a solid goalie and played well for streches, however it seemed he was easily shaken. I hope to see him do well in the Leafs organization. If Kidd is still there, Aubin should be able to backup Belfour without a problem.

Kidd's gone, so with JS's start, it would likely be...

1. Ed Belfour
2. Jean-Sebastien Aubin
3. Mikael Tellqvist

Aubin is on an AHL contract, he is not property of the TML so isn't on their depth chart.

To play in St. John's maybe because Tellqvist is going to be the TML backup.

Not the way Aubin's been playing... there's also only a 2 year age difference. If Tellqvist doesn't outplay Aubin in camp (when the NHL starts up again), he will spend his time in St. John's.

Teams don't bring in players to compete for the backup goalie position. Tellqvist moves up to back up Belfour and get some NHL experience, Racine goes up to St. John's.

It's simple logic. Whoever is playing better will obviously take the back-up position on the Leafs and right now it is Aubin. There's really nothing to discuss.
