He was a terrible captain and should have retired sooner, he gave us a couple good years and that was that.

As a King's fan living in Alberta I was very excited when we signed him prior to last year. It was a low risk signing, and I thought he would add a lot of grit to our bottom 6 and thought he would be good on the PK.
Turns out it didn't work out, but I still think he was worth the risk.

Not exactly ... did he work hard? Yes. Was he incredibly charitable? Yes. Did he also have a knack for taking the most selfish penalties at the worst possible time in a game? Yes.

He was a good soldier but a pretty bad captain IMO - one of the team's worst. Sad things went the way they did for him but I don't think he was smart enough to be a great captain.

I always get a kick out of fans thinking a guy retires too late.

Come on, if you can hang around and play NHL hockey why the heck wouldnt you?

Congrats to Moreau on his career, definitely somebody who made something out of not much.

Partially agreed.

Choppers' scoring touch never translated at the NHL level after he was a high pick for Chicago and it didn't ever equate to much here, either.

He was a hard worker and when his game was at its best he was a revered checking winger.

Thing is...I don't think we ever got more than maybe 3 full seasons of "really good" Ehtan Moreau.

And his time as Oilers' Captain will go down as a low point for the franchise.

For Moreau it doesn't really matter, but guys like Modano went out looking like crap.

I like when Lidstrom retired.

Guys like Lidstrom & Selanne are all time greats and even as they played into the 40-somethings they were having better seasons than Moreau had in the prime of his career.

Amazing... the gap between average and awesome.

I understand that. Was just kinda saying that when elite players look like crap it hurts there image. Where as guys like Moreau really never had that much of an image to hurt.

This from a co-worker who follows the boards from time to time but not have an account:

Oiler fans, don’t turn into ‘nucks or flames fans with short memories. Moreau was a leader here for years, well before his captaincy. He was a leader on and off the ice for years and deserves the credit for the majority of his career work. Cut him a little slack for the later years. We all lose a bit of effectiveness in the home stretch. Read the story below and when you get to the point about Disneyland, remember this conversation between Hailey’s dad and Ethan. Hailey’s dad said thank you, but we can afford to buy our own tickets; Ethan replied “I am pretty sure I can afford them too, and in a time like this you don’t need to”. It was because of Moreau’s actions towards my wife’s little cousin and her last wish that made me want to name my first Son Ethan. PS Hailey was buried wearing her jersey from big George, another short term memory whipping boy of Oiler fans. Remember true fans are loyal to a fault. Thanks for listening.

Image smiage, is what I say.

Walking on the ice and have every fan of your team boo you is priceless if in your heart you know you did everything you can.
