"Its great to see the franchise realize its desperate need to rebuild and use the draft as its main means. I'm ready to support this process that I fully realize will take a few years. Its happened before and it'll happen again."
Ottawa Senators Fanbase June 2012:
"lol draft? Draft picks rarely, if ever, pan out. Ever heard of Alexander Daigle? Trade it all for underproducing stars locked into bloated life long contracts. You're crazy if you think prospects would actually develop into quality NHLers. LA just traded away everything for Mike Richards and Jeff Carter who single handedly lead them to a predictable cup win. Do it Murray! I don't care if we scored more goals than 90% of the league and our defense is crap and aging, sell it all 4 FWRDZ!"
More like:
June 2011: Wow, that was an awful, awful season, maybe it's time to build around an already talented core with solid drafting!
June 2012: Wow, we just went 7 games with the best team in the east and have a chance to get one of the best forwards in the league while still keeping our 1st pick and many other talented prospects!
Last years draft picks are this years prospects. If we didn't have Noesen, Zibanejad or Puempel, I don't think anyone would be talking about punting our pick this year or trading a prospect.

We could skip this draft entirely and still be top 10 in the league in terms of prospects...
Oh God. Just take Yakupov, Edmonton. If they go with Murray and Columbus passes on him because of the Russian factor, we will see Yakupov in our division.
Yeah people act like if we traded Zibanejad and one other prospect we'd be giving up the farm. We're pretty deep prospect wise I wouldn't mind making a trade for top level player.

Agreed, even if we traded Zibby we still have Stone and Silfv and 2 of our 3 1st round picks from last years draft.

This is true. Though, it'll be interesting to see what Edmonton, Buffalo and Tampa are able to do this weekend.
We're in a phase right now where continuing to stockpile and draft well will be pay off. We can add players like Michalek or Hjalmarsson and a couple UFAs without abandoning the plan from last season and address actual pressing needs rather than fulfill fantasies. Obviously, all these prospects won't make the NHL or this team, but its still too early in the evaluation and development stages to throw a bunch of them in a trade for big money players with question marks. Many of our needs can be filled from within in the near future, at least IMO.
Is there anyone more annoying than Dreger? He's like a verified version of Eklund but on TV.
One of them is a respected hockey insider who breaks more trades than any other hockey journalist. The other is an outright fraud who manufactures trades out of thin air. Dreger is so much more credible than Eklund that they should never be mentioned in the same sentence.
Forget about trades. We need all our collective will power to hope for Yakupov, Murray, Galy and Forsberg in the top four so the Leafs are shut out of their top tier forward.
