2012 NHL Draft Thread IV (June 22-23)

I don't know if it is years of the beatdown, or what. In previous years I've gone to the draft party with a clear preference for the player I want, and a self assembled draft book with all sorts of facts about everyone else.

This year I just want them to draft the guy that won't be a bust.

Which one is that?

The players drafted 1st 3rd, and 4th overall.

Unless of course a trade happens, then the bust order shifts as well.

Is the furry convention going to be occuring at the same time as this or did they end up moving it?

As long as it's a name brand player...

I remember hearing crickets when Howsen called out Ryan Johansen.

Everyone was like "Who? That's not the guy the Dispatch were drilling into our heads!"

Anybody still have the screenshot of the Puckrakers Headline that said "Gormley is the Pick"?

What if he'd been drafted by Boston? Would their paper say "Bruins pick Gaaaaaahmley"?

It was scheduled for the weekend before. Already happened.

Incidentally, I was there the weekend before that one for a get-together with several friends, some of whom were going to that thing. (I stay far, far away from Anthrocon. It's scary.)

It was last weekend. Apparently they didn't want a host of out-of-town weirdos arriving at the same time as Anthrocon.

Darren Dreger on TSN: "Tambellini is playing poker right now and he's bluffing all those who are asking who he's going to take. The sources that I'm dealing with are convinced that he's going to take the defenseman, and that he's going to go with Ryan Murray. And they applied the logic that, Kevin Lowe, who has a say in this process, as Steve Tambellini's boss, obviously likes Ryan Murray, because he brought him over to the World Championships, and they believe that he can step in as an NHL Defenseman, and make an impact relatively quick. I think he goes with Murray, but there's still a lot of time left, and that pick is still somewhat in play."

Let the hockey gods be with us, at least once this season.

I am all for this so long as it happens in a scenario where we HAVEN'T already traded the second overall.

(I remember in 2009 thinking "let's just pick John Moore at #16" and being really worried and apathetic when we traded down... and then we were able to trade back up to grab him and I believe the exact words out of my mouth were "DONALD SCOTT HOWSON YOU ARE A ******* MOTHER****ING GENIUS!" Yeah, I liked that move. )

If Edmonton takes Murray, can we sign all those Edmonton fans who said that they expected Johansen + Savard + 2nd Overall to move up to 1st or they were done with the team?

Not exactly the friendliest board over there. I asked who would they target on defense because they lack at #1, as well as a legit #2 d-man, considering how their plethora of d-man prospects likely project as #2-#3, if they draft Yaks and missed out on Schultz, and they all acted like what I said was blasphemy.

Well, they are all going nuts because they want Yakupov so badly.

I just saw a Tweet on Tsn that said Yakupov had talked to 4 teams since arriving in Pitt. Tuesday, CBJ, NYI, Carolina, and Toronto. Kind of strange that with the first pick Edmonton has had no contact.

Is it too late to fire this moron? With the 17th pick the Jackets take Koekkoek.

Its not the not moving up part, its the possibility of trading down.

They want Forsberg and think they can get him at 4 or 5- that's my take.

Pretty sure if they want to move down then Forsberg is the guy they want.
