Squeezing Edmonton...if they want Murray, they have to take him #1 or they don't get him.

I swear, the only exercise most people are getting on here is running for the hills, occasionally stopping to refresh Twitter.

Howson said team's wish is to get "the best player we think is going to be the best player, not necessarily the best player today." #CBJ

And there is the final Nail in the coffin.

That player's nationality and position is irrelevant, Howson said. #CBJ

Forsberg

So? There's a huge glut of players in the top-10; anyone one of them can go 2nd or 3rd, and any one of them could go 9th or 10th.

If Edmonton passes on Yakupov and takes Murray, how much more valuable does #2 become? If someone will pay through the nose to move up two or three spots to get a guy they covet, with Columbus still able to get the guy they wanted, is everyone still going to panic?

By the way, in 1999, the best player that day was Patrik Stefan. The best player on draft day in 1997 was Sergei Samsonov. The best on draft day 2006 was Erik Johnson. The best defenseman in 2008 was probably Bogosian. Being the best guy on draft day doesn't mean he'll be the best player in 3 months, let alone 3 years.

Astute, I believe, on your part, Brass.

Nothing like telegraphing what you want to do with the pick Scotty!

Don't you think this is more in response to the folks yelling "CBJ would be very hesitant to take another Russian"?

**** this. I hate this inept organization. We're going to not even attempt to get the one stud in this draft bc we feel like waiting another 4 years on a POTENTIAL top liner when we could throw Methot and 2nd at EDM and give us a potential top liner THIS year. Oh and were not even close to getting rid of Nash because hes too busy wanting Couture/Couturier/Kreider. Get rid of the distractions, MOVE ON.

Aaron Portzline ‏@Aportzline
Told the #CBJ are considering at least one trade offer that would have them moving down from the No. 2 overall pick.

****ing perfect. I cant wait to add a depth defenseman or 3rd liner at best/MORE picks! It's what we really need! Forsberg will be the best player ever!

I didn't know trades took place in a vacuum.

Quick, trade Huselius' UFA rights for #3 overall before anyone else can!

Just about everybody has said that Edmonton is asking for too much.

Methot and a 2nd isn't enough. If you truly believe that this could get it done, idk what to say.

Its more of the fact that he isnt even trying. In fact he wants to go further down. Just awesome. Love our GM.

Please, no!

If Niles trades down and passes on a chance to nab Galchenyuk in hopes of Forsberg evolving, man, that would suck worse than having a chance to nab Yakupov and passing on him, in my opinion.

I really enjoy the draft but I am *so* prepared to be disgusted by Tomorrow night.

Except we've had people say he met with Tambellini. I doubt they were discussing how much they liked Prometheus.

And moving down might not be a bad idea. We have no idea what the market is. Perhaps you should wait till after the team moves down before complaining about the team moving down.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

I'M being ridiculous? I'm not the one coming up with a trade idea that probably is way outside of what Edmonton is looking for, suggesting that that's all it would take, then blasting the GM for not pulling the trigger on it.

Let's say that Edmonton wanted #2 and Johansen for #1. Still a good deal? How about Savard, Moore, and #2 for #1? How about Jenner, Atkinson, and #2? Are these still good deals, the failure of which to take is "not even trying"?

But yes, I'M the one being ridiculous.

Relax buddy. That was in response to your Huselius for MTL #3rd overall pick. As in dont be ridiculous about trading players that arent even close. Fact is, no one knows what EDM's asking so until you do, dont criticize what other people propose. K Thx

Maybe this is just me, and I've said this before, but I don't get why Howson doesn't just stand pat and take Galchenyuk at #2. IMO, he's the 2nd best player in the draft as of today, and will be one of the 2 best players that emerges from this draft when you look back on it in 10 years. It's clear he doesn't want Galchenyuk if he wants to trade down, because there's no way he gets past #3 (and if the team they are mulling over a trade with is Montreal, or Toronto, he's gone at #2).

I feel for you guys, I really do. I remember how mad I was when our inept ownership traded away Joe Thornton, who at that point was a top 5ish player in the league (he had 125 points the year he was traded) for a bunch of stiffs. The only decent guy we got was Marco Sturm, and one year he'd score 25-30 goals, and the next year he'd be on the shelf for the entire year.

And how do you know he didn't ask, didn't like the answers and has moved on ?

How has this worked out yet?
Montreal-Phoenix
Traded 2010 first round pick (#27-Mark Visentin), 2010 second round pick (#57-Oscar Lindberg) to Coytes for 2010 first round pick (#22-Jarred Tinordi), 2010 fourth round pick (#113-Mark MacMillan) on 2010-06-25
Same here?
2009 Draft
NY Isles-Minnesota

A Wash at best, De Haan will turn out to be a stud. Most likely a win for MIN though, lucky CHI traded for him.
Anaheim-Columbus
Traded 2009 first round pick (#26-Kyle Palmieri), 2009 second round pick (#37-Mat Clark) to Ducks for 2009 first round pick (#21-John Moore) on 2009-06-26
Palmieri had ridiculous stats in the A last year in limited games. Wash imo.
2008 Draft
Toronto-NY Isles
Traded 2008 first round pick (#7-Colin Wilson), Islanders choice of either 2008 second round pick (not exercied) and 2009 third round pick (not exercised), or 2008 third round pick (#68-Shawn Lalonde) and 2009 second round pick (#37-Mat Clark) to Islanders for 2008 first round pick (#5-Luke Schenn) on 2008-06-20
Luke Schenn hasnt come close to filling his potential either.
2007 Draft
Columbus-Dallas
Traded three 2007 fifth round picks (#128-Austin Smith) (#129-Jamie Benn) (#149-Michael Neal) to Stars for 2007 fourth round pick (#94-Maksim Mayorov) on 2007-06-23
You win on this one.
Still...the number of times that they dont work out far outweighs the times they do.
