"This has certainly been a more difficult process. There has been more players involved in the decision (first overall pick) this year than we've had in the past, for they've stayed in the discussion for a longer period of time. It's been a longer process than the previous two years, and I think some players have risen."
Yet Tambo is saying they've had the same guy #1 all year???
When has there ever been so much curiosity as to who the 1st team will pick? I mean, this has to be one of the most debated first overall picks ever. Proven sources such as Dreger and Spector are both getting different ideas. At this point I'm excited more than anything. Not nervous at all.
I'm a little young, but from what I've heard this makes me smile just a bit, Yakupov will be an Oiler.
Put it this way during the Summit series he was the best player on the Ice Bar none playing against Canada"s best. If it was not for Clarke tomahawking his ankle we probably would of lost series he was owning us in that series.
On the topic of drinking. Is anybody going to the Pint tomorrow ?
I noticed Carolina and at least one other team is having a draft party, why don't the Oilers? Sheesh even when Oilers are getting those really late pics it would be fun for fans and keep them interested in the team during the summer.
Oh well, we'll have a fantastic young hockey player added to our team in less than 22 hours..
Scouting Report: "He's a skilled and dynamic offensive talent. He's got over-the-top confidence, there's no doubt. As long as you can back it up."
Projection: "It's pretty safe to say he's going to be a player who plays on your top two lines."
Weaknesses: "He needs to learn the defensive side of the game and, like a lot of these young players, he needs to find consistency."
NHL Comparable: "He's probably a little bit like Valeri Kharlamov, for those who go back that far. As far as NHL players, people have said they see some Pavel Bure there."
After reading all 5 of Stu's "scouting reports", IMO he's like the antimatter version of Prendergast, who used to gush over rookies to the point of overdoing it. With Stu, he's definitely more guarded with his praise. He didn't label any of the forwards as sure-fire 1st liners, nor did he say that Murray was a #1 dman.
It's hard to make any conclusions, but to be honest Stu comes across as being a big fan of Galchenyuk, maybe even moreso than Yakupov...I kinda got the feeling that Yakupov's boistrous personality rubbed Stu the wrong way a bit. I wouldn't say enough to not pick him or anything, mind you.
GAH...I wish these next 24 hours could go faster. I just want an answer.
