Why? That's what I don't understand. Where will the pressure come from? Fans that might boo? People who pass by him on the streets of Edmonton and tell him that they didn't want him to get drafted 1st overall?

If we're drafting players who are going to take their direction from the fans over the coaching/management staff then we're setting ourselves up for failure anyway.

I think I'm honestly missing something here.

We're already the laughing stock of the league yet it could get even worse if we pick Murray first overall tonight. He's not even in the top 5 d of this draft for some scouts.

So mad. I hope this is just all writers looking for something to write about and we still draft Yakupov.

pps say buddy, what are you gonna do with that big bottle of rum then?
Try to knock some sense into Lowe with it? If it does not break you can have it afterward.

Jack Michaels

Ryan Murray is the logical pick.

Nail Yakupov is the fan's pick.

Gotta love the fans on this board though.

If we take Yakupov:

IN STU WE TRUST!

If we take Murray:

Stu is a moron.

Just jumped on this board here, heard Murray was the likely pick.

I gather there is a lot of unhappy Oiler fans if that is the case. Yak is the clear #1, why the hell wouldn't Tambellini trade down, get a good dman right now and draft anther one further down.

Who knows maybe they take Yak. Either way I must say your guys team will be fun to watch and there is only 1 direction they will go.

Seriously, I will blow up if we take Murray at #1. Take the BPA at #1! Don't over think!

Stu isn't an idiot.

He's carefully set up his out from responibility by clarifying several times now that management has veto power over his choice.

He is not a flashy offensive type talent that exudes being a 1st overall pick. He was not rated 1st around the scene, scouts, media etc... I think he will think he has to do way too much to attempt to live up to all of that and it could very well backfire on him mentally.

I sort of thing of it like when we had Dave Manson. He was a great defenseman for us. Then the Washington Capitals signed him to a 1.2 million offer sheet. The Oilers matched it and kept him. But he was a total mess after that, he stopped playing his physical, safe stay at home game and tried to do everything himself. Manson said himself he could not get sudden expectations he felt signing this huge contract out of his mind and tried to do everything and win the game by himself and it was a disaster.

That is the type of thing I am talking about. Sudden huge pressure on the kid to be Mr. Everything and he does not play a game where he can be that kind of player. He is not a big dynamic sniper like Yakupov and bull like Hall that can rush end to end and crash the net. He is a safe, stay at home guy that when he is playing his best you will probably not notice him that much. Too much undue pressure for that type of player to attempt to live up to.

When does MacGregor's contract expire? If Lowe, MacTavish and Tambellini veto his choice I hope that he's smart enough to abandon this gong show.

I have a feeling if we take Murray that it will not be Stu's choice. It will be an organizational choice made from above Stu.

Stu even said that was a possibility in a recent Brownlee article quote. He said the pick may end up being an organizational need pick from management. Basically Stu hinting like don't blame me if they do not take the home run type guy.

I think he Tambo signed him to a 3 year extension a year or so ago.
