Three of the four are done after this upcoming season. Komisarek's is the only one that could be called terrible.

Apparently a new dark horse has entered the Luongo game, here we go. Let the bidding war for the last bonafide available starter pursue.

San Jose perhaps? I'm sure they'd love to flip Niemi's contract in a package.

And next season Toronto shouldn't be in cap trouble so the last year on Komi's deal wont matter.
He will also be much easier to move with 1 year left on his for much less real money then cap hit.

Komi makes no sense for the Canuks no matter how much you insist they take him.

Ok, lets use some common sense here...if we are trading loungo to free up cap space(as we keep being told by leaf fans) then why would we take back a large salary that negates the cap freedom? It makes now sense.

If all we're getting is scraps now, why bother trading Luongo until you actually lock down your acquisition...then trade Luongo for scraps. The only reason to trade Luongo right now is if there is a good offer.
I think you missed the point of my question, but someone else has answered it.

Especially why take a horrible contract back in return that won't help the roster?

That is a worse solution that simply waiving Luongo and letting someone pick him up for free. There are some here that think that no one would even grab him from waivers as Vancouver would have to add a sweetener to the pot to make it worthwhile for them.

I can assure you... anyone that Leafs fans WANT to get rid of from their roster (one of the worst on the league) is not good enough to make a contribution to the Canucks (one of the best in the league). So having that is the main piece going the other way is simply a non-starter.

I do not believe that a Leafs-Canucks deal will happen... if that is the case, it is the Leafs who come away worse than the Canucks... as much as folks would like to think otherwise. We have our ticket to the playoffs virtually punched with either goalie or both goalies and no summer acquisitions. The Leafs face the same kind of season if they stay status quo or at best hope for something miraculous.

The Canucks are trading Luongo because he requested to be traded.

I would assume it's because some teams can't take on Luongo's salary/hit without getting some salary/hit off their books.

bidding war is only a good thing for gillis.

Leafs not talking to gillis today could force burke to make a call after this recent news.

SJ has some nice pieces. Some deal centered around Boyle and Clowe would be nice.

It also makes no sense for the other team to take on $46 million without sending something back.

Pretty amazing if you do.

PS: I'm not sure you understand these contracts at all.

no ...he stated IF the team wanted to he wouldnt stand in their way(as per being questioned about being traded)

if I remain in Van great........if they traded me somewher that would be good

I can see Luongo being open to being traded if he felt he was going to be put in a secondary role, but thats specualtion on our part

Let him....I mean, what is the worst that happens? Van pays a couple million more then some other teams for their goalie tandem, one of the best in the league?

Clowe and Boyle?!!

Even one of them seems like over payment.

Where did I say we wouldn't send any other salary back?
Really I have been quite constant in theses threads with the idea that the Canucks will have to take some salary back but it has to be something that works for both sides.

Taking back a guy that negates the cap savings they get by trading their world class goalie for 2 years doesn't work for both sides. Especially if your solution to this is they then buy him out and pay him for 4 years to play somewhere else.

Right after Luongo gets benched in favour of his backup he volunteers to leave the team that he has a NTC with.

Then his coach confirms that Luongo wants a new start somewhere else in an interview.
