If Howsen adds another goalie he is a ****ing idiot. Mason is still young. Bob is the same age. Add another goalie? Does he realize only 1 can play at a time?

Hey Scott, your defense is atrocious. Try to shore that up first.

Howson would be pretty good at running a circus

If a trade happens that doesn't include picks (or maybe already has), wouldn't be surprised if it's held off on being announced for a couple days.

@Aportzline: As for Rick Nash trade? Howson said no offers are close. "They have a ways to go yet.

I wish everyone would just stop any trade talks with CBJ about Nash and let it be.

Agreed. Howson's proven himself to be a clown, so let him sit & stew with an asset that doesn't want to be there.

Dustin Byfuglien...I cant think of a player in the league id like to have on this team any less. Fat load that doesn't have the slightest idea about where he should and shouldn't be on the ice.

Let's look at the facts, shall we?

CBJ are perennially one of the worst franchises in the league
CBJ's GM Scott Howson overpays Nash with a ridiculous contract
Nash wants out
Howson sets demands.
The market has spoken and all other GMs feel that Nash's asking price to be ludicrous.
Howson reiterates that no other team has met their demands.

Is it any wonder why CBJ sucks so bad? Newsflash, no sane GM is going to give Howson what he is demanding and like someone else already stated, he is trying to fix years worth of mistakes with one trade. Not gonna happen.

I love that the CBJ fans think that they are getting the kings ransom that Howson says they are! LOL! Just like last year when they all swore up and down that Filatov would bring back at least a 1st round pick. How's that 3rd rounder look about now?

Is Howson under the impression that trade offers increase linearly over time? In that case, if he holds onto Nash for six or so more years, he can trade him for 18 assets!

With the Dubinsky rumors today, I'd assume the Rangers would be moving him for a pick. If Grigorenko slides, I'd move Dubinsky for whatever pick it would take to get him (15? 20?). Then I'd use the open roster slot and freed up cap space to go after both Doan and Whitney on July 1st. Should provide enough offense until Gaborik's back, and once he is:

Whitney/Hagelin - Richards - Gaborik
Kreider - Stepan - Doan/Callahan
Hagelin/Whitney - Anisimov - Callahan/Doan
Rupp - Boyle - Prust/UFA

That's some solid depth. And you've picked up a very high potential forward in Grigorenko.

Torts has shown time and time again that he doesn't like playing D on their off side. The fact of the matter is that we have 3 Top-4 LDs: McDonagh, Staal, and DelZotto. Both Staal and McD should be getting top pair minutes. I pick McD if I'm forced to choose. He's younger, has tons more offensive upside, and only slightly worse on D than Staal.

MDZ needs to be playing 2nd pairing minutes. Despite him faltering at the end of our playoff run, he had a great season, and playing him on the 3rd pair would be a complete waste. He brings offense that no other D man we have does.

To me, this leaves Staal as the odd man out. Now, I love Staal, but he has alot of value, and could fetch us a piece that is much more needed. Isn't that the ideal way to make a trade, from a position of strength, to address a weakness? Well, LD is our strength, and Top-6 Fs our weakness...
You've made logical points here but I don't believe we are in a position to move Staal at this point in time nor does it make any real sense. A lot of us are hoping that we shot for the sky but we might be better served making less sexy moves and gear up for next year's UFA's which are significantly better than this years group.

Darn tootin. I still don't get the infatuation with putting McIIrath into every conceivable trade prosposal.
Can we just wait and see what he develops into?

I kinda have to laugh at the idea of CLB passing in Yakupov if EDM takes Murray.

After Zherdev and Filatov, they might be a little gun shy about selecting another Russian with a high pick. I don't think Yakupov is a flight risk, and I think he's a better player than the other two, but you never know what might happen if things don't start off well.

If we can agree thats they're core, then thats hardly what I would consider old.

Edit: Got beat by The Dark Passenger. The point still stands though.
He's going to be 30 by the start of next season. That's the wrong side of 30 buddy. That is considered aging. Hence why I said he was "aging", not "old".

I don't know much about McIlrath. What player currently in the league do you see him turning into?

It makes as much sense as trading Steps or MDZ.

I understand why they would, but
I honestly think it would be a bonehead move. Draft him and trade him if he indicates he isn't willing to play there. Clark and Gorton said that's what they'd do if they were EDM, always take the BPA and if you need to fill a hole at least you now have a valuable asset to get it done.

You all need to chill with the Dubinsky trading. We're not trading him for fun of it over here. He's still young and can turn it around.

Do I think he's overpaid? Yes. But if he's not in some sort of package which will net us a player substantially better he's not getting moved.

If he's traded for a 1st round pick I would think more than likely we flip that pick along with other assets for some sort of star. Dubinsky being traded signals a larger trade to come for me, not moving up in the draft.

For the 10th pick in the draft, he better at least be Brooks Orpik.
