The first thing I thought of when this came down was that Howson's acting like the petulant child that doesn't want to clean their room. The parent (Nash and Resnick) asks them to (field trade offers) clean their room, the kid (Howson) scowls and says "fine, in a minute." The parent comes back 30 minutes later to check progress and the kid hasn't even started.

@PollakOnSharks: I'm hearing there are no Nash talks between ‪#Sjsharks‬ and CBJ, who still want Couture. No counter-proposal period.

I get the feeling this whole situation is going to be like many of the July 1sts and Deadline days I've seen while watching this team.

Excitement. Buildup. Anticipation. "What happened?".

Please dear God include Pavelski and I'll be happy.
Just to clarify and understand totally, I'm assuming these are rumored pieces & that the deal is not Clowe+Pavelski+Demers+1st for Nash?

Because that would be insane...and I'd take it and run.

But I know better.

This just in, San Jose opting out of the Nash sweepstakes entirely....

Enjoy him, oh, and "just keep piling on...."

All that Aside, Arniel didn't "wake up stupid in Columbus". And he was, at one time, a very capable Special teams coach with Buffalo....

Of course he is. Once he gets here, though, he's in exactly the spot that Nash has been for all these years. A one for one does nothing for us.

I'm pretty amazed that there isn't more attention paid to this quote.

I think both Resnick and Howson screwed up at the trade deadline. Resnick opened his mouth a couple of days before the deadline trying to turn up the heat. If anything, this may have reduced the clout Howson had in negotiating a trade. I think the team (teams?) Rick was pushing for realized he had a short list and was asking out, and kept their offers relatively soft.

Howson didn't buckle (can't tell if that was smart or not as we are not sure about the trade proposals or future promises) but then decided to throw Nash under the bus, which I still don't really understand. I guess it was frustration but still seems like he didn't have much to gain from it.

Anyways, I feel if Howson had made no recent progress whatsoever, Resnick wouldn't be coming out saying "It was a good meeting". I also don't think he would have said that if Howson said 'We have one offer and Rick has no choice but to waive his NTC". So, I'll take that as a positive that some resolution is around the corner. Hopefully, they both learned their lesson and they'll both keep their mouths shut until the deal is done - even though it makes it much more frustrating and boring for board posters.

Howson is delusional. He thinks someone is going to get stupid after Parise and Ryan are off the table and he can wait this thing out. Reality is, once those guys go to some of his suitors, the demand will be lower and no one's perception of Nash's value is going to go up that much from this point forward...particularly when teams have less cap space after addressing other needs on July 1.

Hoping that I'm wrong about this and Howson finds the ability to close as he did with the Wisniewski deal. But it doesn't look good at the moment.

Interesting take. I can go with it. Howson might be feeling heat from above and he certainly is from the fans, but I think the reason he dropped the bomb at the deadline that Nash was driving the bus here was because of what Resnick said that Saturday night before the deadline (no movement now wouldn't necessarily cause the list to expand later) and he feared that the non-movement would prompt Nash's camp to go public before the organization had, thus making them look much worse because Nash (if he was the first one to come out with it publically), I can assure you was putting career preservation ahead of the organizations desires on the return, and lets face it, most people would say Nash has more credibility with them now anyways than Howson. Someone said that the time, that instead of making himself look like the good guy, all he did was pull Nash down with him (I lose, you lose).

My big fear with the wait is that Howson will be operating under the belief that Nash would never become more agressive in his desire to leave and would continue to maintain the same level of professionalism he has so far in this.

There is of course the possibility that that's actually, y'know, true.

Yeah, I just hope a first and somebody to be excited about comes back.... it would probably be easier for ppl here to just lower expectations now rather than be disappointed. I don't think howson figured out how to be a good GM since the season ended.

This is my problem with Howson. He doesnt realize that he's not going to get Couture. Take Pavelski + and run.

Glad Howson is only willing to trade four Couture. Pavelski as the main piece for Nash would be a mistake, Pavelski isn't going to get any better and he sure as hell isn't going to put up decent offensive numbers when he isn't able to hide behind some of the better offensive talents in the game. Hopefully Howson sticks to his guns and just says no to Pavelski. I don't think Pavelski would amount to anything more than a year one or two Umberger for us, so no thanks.

Why did you take the word of every guy who tweets or writes something about trade rumors as 100% fact? I am just wondering. These guys really don't have a clue what is going on. They have their sources, but their sources are only telling them what they want the public to hear.

Agreed, Little Joe would get exposed without the Big Joe (or another number one center). Krejci is a number one center worth being the centerpiece in a Nash package, Pavelski isn't.
