Nope. That's how many of us see it too. We're not only talking about the Flyers here, but the Wild, the Kings and a few other teams have done the same. The message is clear: There is money... Fehr is taking notes, I'm convinced.

Would Meszaros, Voracek, Gustafsson, and 2 1sts work as better compensation for the preds?

Can't we put the terms as 14/110 yet?

Any update if it's 100 M or 110M? Also, what's the opinion of Preds fans on Weber signing an offer-sheet in the first place? I'm sure they still want him back but does this change their opinion of him and make them think that maybe he does want out?

Nashville didn't want to give Weber $7+ on a 3 year term last year and opted for team elected arbitration.
Interesting indeed

Bold move by Holmgren. Have to give the guy credit for having the stones to proceed. However, I bet that Nashville matches. I wonder how close other clubs were to getting Weber in a trade.

Try Couts being added to the 4 firsts for Nashville to consider not matching...

IMO yes. voracek is a legit first line winger. Now you have mez and gus and 2 firsts to play with. I think this package is acceptable for the flyers but not ideal. Ideally it would be 4 1sts.

If Nashville matches they can't trade him after next season ends but before the second signing bonus is paid on July 1st? Is it absolutely defined as a calendar year in the CBA or a full hockey season?

I honestly think the preds are saying to themselves 4 first round picks , and saving cap space is the way to go. I also believe they are a strong enough franchise to come out of this as winners too.

This deal helps out the preds and helps us shed a little bit of salary

If they don't match, they've lost far more than just 2 stars this offseason.

Holmgren has to be the most hated GM in the league, by both other GM's and players.

I hope that Nashville doesn't match, just so my Blues won't have to play against him 6 times a year.

Yeah, they didn't want to see him walk for nothing as an UFA in three years time, this is absolutely irrelevant to this situation.

Actually, I think the Avs had to scramble and sell off shares to afford Sakic after that offer sheet.
Here's your answer.

Avalanche had to sell equity in still-in-blueprint-phase Pepsi Center to come up with cash to match Rangers/Sakic '97 offer sheet

They will have to try and negotiate TV rights and maybe some things with the city like Denver did with Joe Sakic

http://slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ckey-business/

But I think they will manage OK and sign it. They are doomed if they don't

He doesn't. He stays in bed and trolls NHL franchises via phone calls/faxes.

Holmgren works with the money he is given, I have a hard time giving him credit for the fact his team is loaded.

Yet he continues to sign them to his franchise. Explain.
