Nonis on TSN Radio (5:35pm)

Just a heads up. Will be on in a few minutes. Likely reiterating what he said during the leafs media presser.

- Discussions have occurred, but very quiet on the trade front.
- Expects things to heat up on draft day.
- Feels there could be a chain reaction with the higher profile players on the market once the first guy is moved.
- Not looking to make a deal if it creates a gap in one or two other areas.
- Not opposed to improving depth rather than acquiring 1 big name.
- Knows Carlyle prefers certain types of players.
- Not opposed to aqcuire a player with 1 year left, but cost is defiantly an issue. (both trade and re-signing at UFA)
- Not opposed to acquiring players with long-term deals. Defiantly opposed at giving these types of deals out themselves.
- Generally the team is looking for young players with experience

That was Part 1. They just hit the commercial break and will be back.

- Likely picking at #5.
- Has taken offers on both moving up and moving down but nothing worth doing.
- Taking best player available.
- Dave Morrisson (leafs head scout) usually gets final call when it comes to pick selection.
- No clear-cut superstar in this years draft, but lots of "high-end" players.
- Some players may not have developed as quickly as they thought, but confident they'll still help the team long term.

That's Part 2.

Would someone mind posting a summary for those of us who can't listen?

Just posted a general summary on the OP. Nothing really that groundbreaking, but informative.

BPA is what we are going to. Not forward.

The Toronto market wants a contender, a team that can win. More than excitement in July or August.

As an outside observer if you guys stay at 5, with Galchenyuk going to the Habs I would definitely take one of the defenseman

Not high on Grigorenko especially with Reinhart, Rielly, and Dumba on board

I have you guys picking Rielly because of the transition game he'll provide, and even though he almost missed the entire year I think he's ready to step in soon. Having Dumba is a bit redundant, but Reinhart would also make a good selection. I can see Burke being high on Trouba but he doesn't have the same potential as the other three, I could very much be proven wrong here as he's also a great player.

Sweden's big body Filip Forsberg, if he drops to 5th which I doubt would also be considered.

I'll be so disappointed if we don't have one of Grigo, Forsberg, Galchenyuk in a leafs jersey tomorrow.

Final summary posted in the OP.

Overall, it seems as though the leaf brass are taking the calm and cool approach to this offseason. Not willing to part with too many pieces, and risk organizational depth. Doesn't mean they won't go after a big name, but it has to make sense. I think that puts Nash and/or Ryan out of reach (not that I thought we were after them in the first place).

Ghostrider is trolling guys, ignore him.
Yea this seems like a good approach for sure. Not making any foolish decision, such as last time aka MPS/Hodgson instead of schenn.

Will never understand this line of thinking. If you're too proud to sign someone to a deal that circumvents the cap, how can you justify acquiring someone who does?

Perhaps the same way most people wouldn't kill a live cow, but have no problem eating a steak off one that someone else already killed?
