Im flipping tired of coming on these boards and reading bone head comments like this, Horcoff is as bad as everyone here says he is, why because he gets put in situations he does not belong, heck Ryan Jones, Anton Lander, Sam Gagner damn it anyone else will do better given the same minutes and privlages that the tool Horcoff gets
So hate on the coaches who keep putting him on the ice shift after shift or the management that signed him to an untradeable contract. Don't hate a guy who tries his hardest every single shift despite clearly being out of his depth. I don't understand how you can hate a guy for not being as skilled/talented as you the fan would like him to be. Sure, I can see how you could hate a player who is lazy, entitled or a bad teammate, but Horcoff is none of those things.
Come to think of it your right, that 1 yr of his playing carrerr was all it took to assure the hockey Gods in Edmonton that he UNTOCHABLE for the rest of his playing days in Edmonton

Stupid stupid stupid. I'm as big a Horcoff hater as you'll find on here, but there's no way he should be giving up his number to Yak. Horc's given blood, sweat, and tears to this team. Yak has given nothing.

Can this thread just go away? You can not like the player or contract or lack of natural talent. But we're talking about a guy who has given everything for years for the team and a rookie who hasn't even skated once for the Oilers.

But but he plays the tough minutes, which is true every time he is on the ice its tough minutes for the team. You forgot ga forwards 3rd overall
I'm no Horcoff fan, and consider his contract a shining example of management's utter inability to objectively assess talent.
But you don't ask or demand veteran players to give up their numbers, especially not captains(good or bad). You might as well just write down the Oilers as the least desirable destination in the NHL for another decade if they ever decided to follow through on a silly idea like that. It's literally equivilent of announcing to every other player in the NHL that the team doesn't respect it's players, and cares nothing for creating a team atmosphere.
Even if Horcoff wants to give it up, the team should still decline even if it would garner both Horcoff and the franchise good PR. Only way Yakupov should get that number is if Horcoff is bought out or traded before the season starts.
