With our success with these Gunnarson, Kaberle, Markov picks. Remember this name.

Hard to be unhappy with a Bergman selection. His track record with late round Swedish defensemen in particular is outstanding.

19, but will be 20 in November. Gunnarsson was also two years olden than his peers when the Maple Leafs picked him.

Hopefully he can turn out similar

Never heard of him, but will keep an eye on him next season. His team is playing in the 2nd division in Sweden so he should get some good ice time.

Good of Morrison to recommend this pick, gives Bergman and the Euro scouts in which we have 5 on staff to keep plugging in the arenas oversees. Probably a big pick to them, so it's Loov for John Mitchell. Closes the book on that one.

Plays in my home team, seen him in 50+ games last season in SEL 2, same league s Hampus Lindholm & filip Forsberg, now is your chance, ask questons.

First of all, late bloomer, nobody heard about him one year ago. Reason? He was skilled, but really small, almost was cut from the juniors as a 16 year old due to size, but could stick around due to good hockey sense. Two years later and + 25-30 cm he last year got a suprising trial with his SEL 2 team after an ok year in the juniors. Already during pre-season games you could see this guy was something special, not nervous, playing solid, no misstakes. During last season he was a top 3 defender in Södertälje as a Rookie, and the number one was former Oilers player Jason Strudwick which was somewhat of a menthor for our youger guys. In the later stages of the season he also started to make a impact in the offense. Solid two way defender with remarkeble developement last year, if I compare him to for example Jonathan Ericsson of Detroit Red Wings at the same age(from the same club), better defensively skills, more calm and more mature out there, maybe less skilled with the puck but still, good first pass and did score some goals. Will be a key player next season in Sel 2, top two defender in södertälje if not going to AHL. You can always ask me for post game reports via direct message my twitter during next season.

Good post BTW thanks.
Maybe around 170 cm a few years ago. The intresting thing will be to see if he continues to develope, or if it slows down.

Seems like a safe pick. High-end potential probably isn't that great, but if we could find another Gunnarsson, that'd be spectacular.

He grew 25-30 cm in 2 years? Damn, I can see why he is a late-bloomer then. Definitely a pick to keep an eye on. Thanks for the summary.

I could see him sliding into the Marlies rotation as a Mikus replacement.

But he's probably better off in the SEL2 for another year at least.

Late bloomers should still be given time to develop properly and not rushed either.

At least 20cm, he was really small, didn't see him much back then and in the games i saw he was not the main focus. Talked a lot about him with different coaches during the last year to understand his rapid developement.

Seriously Loov the name . This was a great pick simply for the name value alone.

But makes sense that he suddenly became noticed after gaining all that height in a hurry. A good pick and look forward to seeing how he continues to develop.

Gotta love the yearly Thommie Bergmann pick(s).

2012: Loov
2011: Nilsson
2010: Olden, Granberg, Brodin
2009: No Euros
2008: Flaake
2007: Gunnarsson, Mikus
2006: Holzer, Stalberg, Komarov
2005: Rask, Stralman, Dahlberg
2004: Kukumberg, Vorobiev, Semenov
2003: Volkov
2002: Steen, Turon, Immonen, Kronwall

... okay, I'm tired of listing them (I think he goes back to the mid-90s) and who knows which Euro picks he's actually responsible for, but he's certainly a had a pretty decent hit rate considering most of them are mid-late rounders. From 2002 to 2008... he's roughly got a 40% hit rate.
