I'm not advocating it. I'm answering a question.

Seems like a drastic over-payment for a "nice to have" to me. Del Zotto notched 41 points to Yandle's 43. We're not exactly dying for a PMD over here.

Schenn won't be part of any deal soon.

I'm not really sure what the flyers would offer up for Yandle. One could dream but

Briere + Read +1st(20th) + 2nd(45th) would be nice from our point of view.

The value is not there though.

Luongo+ for Yandle.

Yandle fits a need for the Canucks (puck movement, top pairing defenseman, don't know if he can play the right side though). Although Mike Smith did have an excellent year behind Phoenix, I'm very inclined to praise the system before I praise Smith. Phoenix has been a great defensive team for a while now and if they've succeeded with middling goaltenders (Bryz showed his true colors in Philly), I can't imagine what they would do with an actual all-star goaltender behind the team.

^^ This. I am so sick of us looking at D. We have a good core of young guys, and we have 2 1st round picks waiting in the wings, and a solid 5-6 (or better) guy recovering from a concussion. We don't need established guys making 5+ million a year on this team. I don't care what Torts may have said at one point, did he say AFTER the conference finals that we needed a top 4 D man?

I semi-agree with the overpayment part, but Del Zotto isn't on Yandle's level defensively.

its probably Sather doing what every other Gm is doing, their due dilligence, if he WASN"T kicking the tires, I'd be concerned.

and Yandle is nowhere on the level of need to the Rangers as Stepan is.

so therefore, no deal. Rangers are fine without him (and I'm sure almost everyone knows this)

Agreed. Some people are saying DZ + Stepan + 2nd? Not worth it. Not in the least bit. Yandle is very good but...

I have to believe that the Rangers are "in" on Yandle is an effort to drive up the price for division rivals Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. I don't blame them, but I can't see the Rangers moving valuable assets to improve what is already a major strength.

I would include Schenn in a deal for a top end d-man like Yandle or Weber, but I wouldn't go above a package based around JVR/Voracek for any of the big forward names on the market like Nash or Ryan.

right, maybe they are "in" to drive up the price on those 2 teams. Its probably just Sather doing his job and looking at everyone available though.

I am sure they all do it, but not every rumor has 29 other teams mentioned. I sometimes wonder if TO, the Rangers, etc, get mentioned just to spur some talk/excitement for the media.

Rangers have assets to trade and they are good for media exposure. I'm sure we'd hear all kinds of names that the Rangers are "in" on talks if Malkin was available. knowing without the whole team going back to Pitt it would never happen.

Keith Yandle is a premier dman in the NHL and he's coming into his prime. These guys dont get moved very often. Whoever (if even true) lands him, they'll be paying a large price.

Never said he wasn't or wouldnt bring in a big price.

Rangers have 3 top d man of their own, and one up and coming one in Del zotto, and maybe another one in CT in Erixon. We're fine at the top.

Rangers fans aren't doubting that, we are doubting that we would trade people up and coming in areas we need them to add to an already very strong area on our team.

Heh, fail. Then Yandle becomes a necessity. Think about that one.

Not even close.

Kesler for Yandle makes sense.

Luongo's contract lowers his value drastically

We wouldn't do either one. and honestly, I think a stepan package (without any of our d included) could get Ryan.
