Best NHL PA Announcer

My vote goes to Lou Nolan of the Flyers. His voice is iconic.

Lou Nolan for sure. For the last 40 years he's been balancing professionalism and passion while calling Flyers home games. Other all-time greats include Paul Morris(Toronto 1961-1999), John Barbaro(Pittsburgh 1974-2009), and Budd Lynch, who still goes out and does it every night at the Joe despite being 94 years old, even though he has help now. Lou's the best, but Alan Roach(Colorado), Bill Oellermann(Dallas), Andy Frost(Toronto), Michel Lacroix(Montreal) and Mark Lewis(Edmonton) are very good too.

I've always thought that Dallas and Colorado's announcers could be twin brothers. They sound nearly identical.

Bill Oellermann in Dallas has a noticeable accent. They both have powerful voices though.

Edmonton Oilers Mark Lewis, if you wanna talk iconic. Thats not "just a homer vote" either. Dude is as big a legend as Rod Phillips was. "The Oilers goal..."

Classic.

No doubt he's an icon. I believe I read he's been doing it since 1981, meaning he caught all the best Gretzky era years. I'm sure his voice was tired on many nights in those days. He is to Oilers fans what Lou Nolan is to us. Lou was at the mic in our Cup years as well, and still does a great job.

John Ashbridge in Vancouver was a classic, but he's gone into sem- and perhaps full retirement. The new guy is all right.

The Oilers guy is fun to make fun of.

You think Doc's bad?

I swear I spill a drink or drop things when he yells. Startles me every time.

The previous Senators guy used to go:

"Yoooooar....Ottaawaaa.....SENATOOOARS...."

What's a Senatoar?

Sounds like a cross between a minotaur and a Senator.

Kinda like this epic character:

Thank god for Stuntman.

Tom Calhoun for St. Louis hasn't missed a game since 1987.

I like the Montreal guy, especially the way he pronounces some foreign names, announcing goals in English, with his French accent. Excellent.

The Senators guy is one of the hosts on XM NHL Home Ice, I think it's Mike Ross but it could also be that Shalley guy. A lot of them also do radio, I know in Winnipeg our guy does a morning show on TSN Radio and also works for a local rock station.

I really don't get to hear a lot of them, or just can't put the voice in my head in late June, but Andy Frost (TOR) and Bud Lynch (Det) are two of the best for sure.

The guy I miss most is Paul Morris - one of the most iconic PA voices of all time. Although the old Chicago Stadium guy was quite unique as well.

I've heard awful and Stu is not it. You can't please everyone, but I like him as our announcer.

Recent thing, and I'm sure it's scripted. How you guys liking Ryan Mill to replace the great John Barbaro. Guy's the second most obnoxious PA Announcer behind Wes Johnson(Washington)

This is one of those insert your teams PA announcer threads, so with that, David Courtney for the Kings. Guys voice was meant for doing what he does.

He's another good one for sure. He's been doing this since at least the Gretzky era, from what I see.

Yea hes been there since i was kid back in the early 90's...he's become a staple of the organization and not just to the Kings but Lakers and Clippers as well. He was out sick one night and someone filled in for him...it was terrible....one of the worst nights of my life

John Barbaro was so good. Announced games with emotion, but class. None of that loud and obnoxious WWE announcing.

The new guy's just not the same.

Just a side note....What a awesome job, i seriously cant think of many jobs out there that are better...i mean you get to go to every game and get paid to watch it and then when theres a goal or penalty, just announce it. That'd be probably in my top 3 of dream jobs to work.
