EDIT: Although given the Lindback deal I guess the market is pretty out of whack right now. This might be tame in comparison, depending on how you see the players involved.

Tonight could be very interesting.
Edm can use some young D... but not 18yr olds. Given their abundance of young forwards, they need some young 20s D studs to build that team correctly.

Trade the top pick or a young roster forward for a D one. They need the likes of the Carlsons and Alzners.

We don't know for sure that it's not just misdirection on Columbus' part. I guess Portzline sounds pretty sure, but we really don't know until they make the pick. If Yakupov is there and they pass on him... . Kind of funny that RH asked if an owner had ever fired a GM on draft day for a horrible pick. Well....

Yeah, as far as that stage for sure.

@theScoreTicker: Flyers have reportedly dealt Sergei Bobrovsky to Columbus. His .860 save % after the All-Star break was the worst in the NHL.

Not Winning for MacKinnon?

Signing FA's to fill the gap isn't the economically smart thing given that those stud forwards will be coming of their ELCs. But one isn't an issue if its a steady-Eddie not a offensive producing D and it worked for Chicago... cup and still could jettison Campbell.

I read that his entry level as a drafted and unsigned FA was limited to 2yrs @925 + moderate (idk)bonus.

That seems like an incredible no brainer for the for Oilers IMO. Draft Yakupov and sign Schultz. And for Schultz as a young offensive minded defenseman signing with a team with that much young talent up front and where you are almost guaranteed to get prime opportunities early on makes a ton of sense also.

And if you are the Oilers how do you pass up a chance to put together the 1st overall line...

I used to be able to get behind the Olli selections before Hunter became coach. Now, I think Hunter and his **** stain of a team he put on the ice, I would think about it every shift the kid takes for the Caps.

**** that.

Girgensons might be gone by #11. If he's there, he's the pick.

Don't see the upset over the Bobrovsky deal. The BJs didn't give up a whole lot. They didn't take on a bunch of salary. Bobrovsky had one great half and one less-than-great half. Nothing Earth-shaking.

If Girgensons is there and the Caps pass on him, I suspect this will end up as just another failure of GMGM on draft day.

I think the best case scenario (other than trading pick(s) for proven roster players) is the Caps package #11 and #16 to move into the top 5 or 6.

I really, really hope they don't package both to move up.

Honestly, 2 50-60 pt calibre players(or 1 and a 2nd pairing D...) are worth more than a 70-80 pt player/top pairing Dman.

I think that's one of the worst case scenarios, personally.

It seems very unlikely. The only player that may be worthwhile to move up into five for is Galchenyuk and if he's there Toronto probably sprints up to select him.

Agreed, but how much faith do you have in GMGM in making not 1, but 2 solid picks in the middle of the round?

That is kinda what I had in mind. If someone slips top 5 or 6, I'd be happy shipping both picks to move up.

Craig Button has Girgensons going at 11.

That alone is reason enough to not pick him at 11. I don't care if he has more potential than Gretzky.
