I heard that at the Q draft, it was almost done then.

Millard does a radio show with Doug MacLean who is good buddies with Gallant.

This is a done deal.

I dunno. I disagree with Whitesnake about a lot of things, but he knows his Q stuff. If he's adamant that a guy like Houle or Groulx is better than Gallant, I'm inclined to believe him.

Cautious optimism, as always, though.

Millard probably got that from MacLean who is also from Summerside and friends with Gallant.

another former player. Played in a great organization much of his career. I liked him during the memorial cup. A little rough around the edges as a head coach, but I think he will be a good assistant. He is tough and definitely has character & charisma. He will know Beaulieau very well....and now probably Tinordi & Ellis & Bournival also....

Don't like this. Now we have two coaches (Therrien and Gallant) who aren't good technical coaches. We better get a good X's and O's guy for our third coach. Rah-rah'ing only goes so far and doesn't teach hockey.

Well, I don't think he makes an ideal head coach at this level (then again neither does Therrien imo) but as an assistant coach I think he'll do fine in the role.

Hell, I'll take him any day over someone like Mario Tremblay or bringing someone like Carbo back. Admittedly though, Carbo does do better in an assistant role than as a head coach. But I think Gallant is the same in that sense.

Now, bring in someone like Larry Robinson or Craig Ramsay, and I think we're all set.

This. Someone behind the bench needs to be a top notch strategist. I don't think Gallant fits that role and don't know enough abou Jodoin to really give an opinion but I'm not getting a warm fuzzy feeling here, and I really like that "warm fuzzy feeling".

Where do you get that Gallant is not a good technical coach?

I agree, you guys want to elaborate? Are you basing this on Columbus? I watched the Sea Dogs in the Memorial Cup & listened to some of Gallant's interviews, IMO, he's growing as a coach.

I'm worried the club's current philosophy is some "strategy is for wimps, it's all about toughness!"

Gallant was not the best coach in the Q but he was mostly successful in controlling a star filled team at Saint John, so he might make a good assistant. I'm worried he's too similar to Therrien though.

I live an hour away from Saint John and I know someone who was in hockey operations in Columbus when he coached there. This person has worked in NHL, AHL and CHL and says Gallant's practices and strategies were house league calibre. This is a person who hardly says anything negative about anyone....thought the world of Hitchcock (Gallant's replacement) as a hockey guy. Mike Kelly was X's and O's guy in Saint John.

Does Nathan Beaulieu look well coached? All the talent in the world but has no idea where to go on the ice. Either he's dumber than rocks or hasn't been taught properly.

Gallant's supposed to be a great guy....a good cop to Therrien's bad cop so that might work well. Habs have a young team though and I'd like to see a better teacher on our coaching staff.

Beaulieu will be mentored by Lefebvre in Hamilton. Not worried there, this kid needs a coach that was also a D-Man.

Jodoin would be a good compliment to those two though...I mean I'd love Robinson in the staff more than anything else, but I'm very doubtful that's an option.

I almost sure the other assistant coach will be Jodoin (the X's and O's guy)

I love the management group that was put in place this summer. But I don't really like the coaching staff. While Therrien was, probably, the best coach available for the Habs, if his assistant are Gerard Gallant and Clement Jodoin, yowza.

I really tought competent and proven people would be brought onboard. People like Robinson, Craig Ramsey or one of the top AHL head coach. Hell, I'd take Carbo before Gallant. At least, the Habs would have a good PP.
