Going to be really good for Detroit if he pans out good during their development/training camp and shows he can play the minutes this season. Like I said earlier in the previous thread before he got "signed" they would have a scary 3rd line with Helm and Brunner. Both have outstanding speed and Brunner has the finishing touch that Helm is missing.

My highest ceiling hopes for him = Right handed Helm that can score 20-25 goals. Edit: didn't even see the post above me that compares him to a Helm with hands

Dang. Good pick up for the Wings. Wonder how he'll fare in the NHL...

Is he willing to play in the 'A' next season?

Yeah, and it took him two full regular seasons before he made a real impact.

I couldn't think of any other examples either. But it's a free asset regardless.

Lindstrom was soft though, he couldn't even be used on the 4th line.

This guy from what I saw at the WC is a bit more of a hard nosed player. I'd say 30-40 pt minimum if he plays regularly (which he probably won't).

He shoots right. Thats about all you need to know about him as a Wings fan. Instantly has a crack to make this team based on that fact.

Sounds like a solid signing. Adds more depth to an already deep team NHL club. Sounds like he is a gritty, hardnose player with speed that can score some big goals. Hopefully he can forecheck like a beast.

Brunner has an NHL-caliber skillset. He is also speedy and does backcheck, although sometimes does float around on the blueline if things are not going well. Likes to play fancy and dangle but isnt really physically up to the challenge against heavier defensemen. How he manages in the NHL where time and space are much less than in the Swiss league, impossible to say.

Just my short analysis after watching Switzerland's every game in the WC's. IMO he wont be a top 6 player in the NHL.

Nevertheless nice to see him signed because he is entertaining player to watch for sure.

Brunner is more accomplished than either of those two (especially Brunnstrom) and plays a more robust style than Pesonen at the very least. He could definitely be the next Leino though (Leino pre-Buffalo).

In my opinion, you cant adapt to the NA game in half a season. This will be a two-three year acclimation.

This hits the nail on the head!

He goes from my fav Swiss team to my least liked NHL team...

Good luck Damien and keep your head up!

For Detroit's sake they are probably hoping pre-Buffalo, post-Detroit. Leino was horrible in Detroit.

Good thing he'll be on the same team as Kronwall.

That was under the old European NHL draft rules. Under the current rules, Franzen would not have been eligible for the draft and would have been a free agent.

So that is a fair example of bringing over a veteran European player with success....

A Helm with hands? God I hope so, that guy would score 30 goals lol. I swear Helm gets a breakaway every other game on average, but he rarely scores.

I'll be happy if Brunner makes the team.

exactly my thoughts. we need right handed shots badly. He'll have a chance at the very least to be on the bottom 6. I think he could be deadly with his speed playing with Helm. I've love for him to eventually be a top 6 right handed shot. Hell maybe even just a bottom 6 pairing with helm but also a PP specialist

As of now from what reports say is they are going to give him a chance to make the NHL, it depends on how fast he adjusts. Some ppl say hes a better skating version of Hudler.
