if bob pans out as a no1, that's a decent enough deal.

Pittsburgh already has Columbus's 4th rounder this year.

Howson is racist against 4th round picks.

edit: Columbus does have the 117th pick in this year's draft, Vancouver's 4th rounder, from the Samuel Pahlsson trade, though.

Much like they can get a decent player at #2, #31 and #61?

Why are people saying this is such a bad trade for Columbus. Very confusing. Do people just want to hate on anything CBJ does?

Did Philly need to move Bob? Don't understand the deal from the Flyers POV.

Risky trade by Columbus, Bobrovsky is gonna need to have some mental toughness in CBJ if they have another rough season.

Seeing as how Bryzgalov is terrible, I wonder who they plan to get as a back-up for him.

This seems like a low offer, would have thought 2 2nd's or something....Guess he isn't a proven goalie...but glad he has a chance to take over a starting role...will definitely get a lot of practice ;-) (sorry blue jacket fans...just a joke)

Whatever it looks like, it's literally unchanged from where it was yesterday, last week or last month. They'll sign a veteran backup and be right where they were.

And to answer the latest batch of questions, Bob's not suited to play backup for 20 games a year and carries a heavy cap hit for a backup goalie making that number of starts. That role should be filled by a cheap veteran.

The Flyers have to ride or die with Bryz. If you don't think he can do it, that's fine, but having Bob back him up doesn't change that in any way.

1. He's expensive as a backup.

2. He didn't seem to play well without regular work

3. I think they want a veteran presence behind Bryzgalov, just in case he struggles.

It's a nice piece for a goalie who was doomed to be a backup on the Flyers and who brought a big cap hit for that role.
I think he was looking at it statistically. If you look up a chart of NHL drafts, you'll see how much the percentage of getting a good NHLer drops as the draft continues. I'm not saying it's impossible to get a good player out of that spot but it's a very small chance. And the Blue Jackets, in my personal estimation, made a pretty solid move trading it for a goaltender who has at least shown he can play in the NHL fairly consistently.
