I am not comfortable with Bobrovsky being the #1 goalie. If he is coming to be the #2, then I might be ok with this.

My opinion is trending this way.

Maybe they're stocking up on Russians to make Yakupov feel more at home?

Well, Maybe Howson's plan was to take the Best tender available at 45 anyways?

We'll likely regain a pick in the Nash trade. I'm personally not terribly concerned about that aspect.

Looks official to say I believe the full deal is Bobrovsky to Columbus for 2nd in 2012 (45th), 4th in 2012 and 4th in 2013.

IMO, we really didn't give up too much. I don't think we would get anyone better with those picks than Bobrovsky who has potential and NHL experience.

McKenzie seems to think the other 2 picks are fourth rounders.

So basically, it was Bob for a 2nd, as Pahlsson's return is what else we are sending (2 4ths)

Wow, Holmgren should be arrested for robbery. Too much for Bobrovsky. Ian Clark better be as good as they say or Howson better have an ace up his sleeve. Not impressed at all.

Likely, any goaltender that would have been there at #45 will not have the ceiling of Bobrovsky. This is actually a very slick trade by Patrick & co. (as I offer little respect to Howson at this point)

I'm going to guess we go with a Bobrovsky/Clemmensen tandem. Howson better not think he's done all he needs...

Seriously? As weak as our organization is in goal; Bobrovsky battled for a #1 job with Philly as a 19 year old. Yes, they made the playoffs that year.

I don't think he's a starter for right now, but in a year or two, this guy should be a very good NHL goaltender.

True, but at the same time in this goalie market I'm okay with a little overpayment for a HUGE need.

I wouldn't worry too much. Did you have any confidence in this scouting staff whatsoever to do anything worth a damn with those picks?

Not seeing a problem with this now that we know the picks traded.

Yea, seriously. Three picks for someone who should probably be a backup. Especially when the picks are in the first four rounds. Those are picks that build depth. I don't like the deal. I'll eat crow if he comes in here and makes us a playoff team. That said, this deal just screams rebuild to me and that seals Nash's fate.

Howson was going to have to overpay anyways, assuming one didn't return in a Nash deal...

Its not the worst thing he could have done....

I doubt Bob will be a #1 next season. He will need to be platooned with someone. His potential is high, as his athletic talent is through the roof and he has a ridiculous work ethic. When he works to improve something, you can generally see a difference. For example, he set out to improve his puckhandling for last season; there was a dramatic improvement in that area from the season before. If he can keep doing that for other flaws in his game you guys will have a good goalie.

However, he needs good coaching to develop to his potential. He's never had a goalie coach, and there are some serious doubts about Reese in Philly. Hopefully you guys have somebody good. I don't think Bob is a sure thing, but if handled and coached right he could turn into something.

Flyers fans really like Bob for his attitude, work ethic, and down to earth personality. Once you start reading interviews from this guy you'll see why he was popular.

From an outsiders perspective(Tampa fan), this seems like a good deal for Cbus. Bob is a young goalie with a lot of upside, and you guys have some quality defensemen to help him out.

Hope it works out.

How many second through fourth round picks that we've made actually played on our team last year?

And I apologize, I mis-spoke earlier - he was 21 when he started with Philly. Still, a 23 year old goaltender with his credentials does not come cheaply. Essentially, this becomes the Vermette trade, as we acquired that #45 pick (and one of the fourth rounders?) in the Vermette trade, along with the McBackup.

Would I trade Vermette for Bobrovsky? At this point in our rebuild, yes. Yes, I would.
