All the more reason to ship Steve "table for one" Mason out of the organization immediately.

Flyers fan here and you got yourself a very good goalie. He was terrific in his first year, impressive when you consider he came to the Flyres training camp and didn't speak English or understand the culture. He put 100% into everything he did, including taking English lessons. He is a good kid, very talented and very likable (everybody on the team loved Bob) and has an insane work ethic.

The Flyers (typcial of them) gave up on him too soon, one year is not enough , not nearly enough for a young goalie to develop (the Kings gave Quick that time grow and learn and look how that worked out)

One reason that his numbers dipped this year is because in addition to Pronger, the Flyers lost their top defensive forwards in Richards, Carter, and to a lesser extent, Powe and Betts.
That showed this year, as only Courtier and Read and Wellwood could defend their space in their own zone. The other forwards are sloppy defensively and it showed.

This kid has all the right tools to be a great goalie, and the right attitude. All he needs is time to grow and learn.
I would have preferred him to develop normally, over the next few years rather than signing Bryz the sieve but Ed Snider didn't have that patience.

This is what happens when there are no answers in goal from inside the org and the options on the market are limited at best.

Good luck, kid; you're gonna need it.

Yes. Bobrovsky should replace his spot on the depth chart.

I think this means we're not going after Luongo. Would it make sense to have a high-potential goaltender working below a number one with ten years left?

My guess is we sign someone like Clemmensen or Hedberg and go with a tandem next year. Probably not a bad option at this point.

Thinking aloud, I wonder if the movement of 45 makes it more likely they use LA's first rounder this year?

Dansk or Subban (if either are avilable) then right back at 31 with a solid defenseman?

Was Bobrovsky #1 in 2010/2011 from the get go, or did an injury/trade lead to him getting 54 appearances?

fwiw, seems like he's a borderline starter that performed better as #1 than as a backup. I guess he'll be rooming with Galchenyuk on the road.

Niemi is signed through 14-15. That's a tandem I could like, with the 2 trading places sometime in that window. I'm not thrilled with Bob or Niemi, but I think it's a better fit that Luongo, given what you said.

After seeing quite a bit of Bob over the past couple of years, I'm really excited to see his upside. I really think, as someone else pointed out, that he could easily be a top 20, if not higher, goalie in the next couple of years.

Bob for a second and Pahlsson makes me feel a little better about it. Not that I'll cry over a fourth round pick much in the first place. And we still have our own second round pick and, if we need it, the Kings first round pick.

Slight overpayment, but we had the assets to do it.

Again, in a vacuum, I won't complain about this trade. Unfortunately, the game is not played in a vacuum, as we've learned from all the trades we've "won" in recent years, just to see the on-ice performance differ.

A reasonable start. Bring in somebody to forma tandem or a high-volume back-up and it should be an upgrade.

Bob for Vermette and Pahlsson. With this move, I'm in agreement that Luongo is not the best choice for a #1 now.

...wait, this constitutes an overpayment, after what Lindback got?

I do not understand this fanbase anymore. I'm not thrilled or excited by the idea of Bob as a starter, but some of the reactions here seem a little silly.

This is similar to how I feel right now. I don't think this solves all of our woes by any means, but it's a sure attempt at shoring up the weakest parts of both our lineup and our system.

I'm surprised Bob got that third pick but the kid is legit. He's going to become a hometown favorite in Columbus. If he's given time to maturate, I think he's got the talent and mental fortitude to become a top flight starter in this league.

Now we just need to draft the Russian-American Galchenyuk! That would complete it nicely!

#CBJ GM Scott Howson says club may add another goalie, but he"s OK going into season w Steve Mason and Sergei Bobrovsky as his combo.

Lots of content on Bobrovsky on YouTube. Unfortunately I can't link to it from the iPad that I'm on. He looks good to me.

I personally love the trade myself. This was a huge need for us and we got a young goalie with lots of upside. I don't mind that we gave up some draft picks to get him.

Was Portie laughing hysterically when he typed that? That doesn't give me much hope next season....
