The goal will be not to put this kid in the hall of fame after one good season or a few good outings. I, too am pleased by work ethic comments I've seen.

#CBJ GM Scott Howson says club may add another goalie, but he"s OK going into season w Steve Mason and Sergei Bobrovsky as his combo.

No way. I do not want Mason wearing the CBJ crest ever again.
Howson's not tipping his hand and he's not going to shatter Mason's already fragile confidence.
I can put aside the past and say this is a good trade. Sami Pahlson and a 2nd for a goalie with huge upside. There aren't a lot of other choices out there this year unfortunately.
Howson's not an idi...Howson's not a complete idiot. He's not going to say "There is no chance in hell Mason is back next year." He's going to try and get something first.
Goalie in free agency, perhaps a starter/stopgap to platoon with Bobrovsky, IMO, is ideal. Good trade. Hopefully one of many tonight.

What did everyone think he was gonna say? "Dear, every other team please extort me for all I'm worth because we will not go into the season with steve mason?" there is a difference from what a person says and how they really feel.

You guys will love Bob, I loved that guy. He was a class act last year having to sit in the back up role after his rookie campaign. Don't let his numbers this year fool you. He was a lot better then they show.

i know, i know just hurts to actually read it as a quote...
Was Portie laughing hysterically when he typed that? That doesn't give me much hope next season....
I'm laughing as we speak....
I'm really hoping that this is just positioning. But via trade there isn't much left, unless we're trying to trade for rights, which, given the goaltending market, wouldn't really surprise me.
I'd rather send Mason down and use York as a tandem if we're not going to make any further goaltending moves. In the comments he's made to the press, I think he lacks accountability and probably isn't that great in the dressing room.
I will hope that Howson's statement is bluster--it is the smart move to play along that we don't feel we need a goalie. But if we go into the season with that tandem, he is absolutely as dumb as I think he is.

And do you not think 29 other GM's don't already know Mason has issues with maturity and mental toughness? There's no hand to tip here. To use your poker analogy, 29 other GM's know GMSH is holding a pair of 2's and betting 3.2 million dollars on him.
Okay, well...that's mildly frightening. I'm a little less confident that he was giving lip service and a little more scared that he actually is going to follow through on his plan here.

And if we don't, is he less dumb than you think he is? And will you then think he is less dumb than you used to think he was? (In which case, he'll still be as dumb as you think he is. Or something.)

Thanks and I agree.
A lot of folks criticize Howson for being a strictly numbers guy only and then look at Bobrovsky's numbers and instantly say it's an awful trade.
As a Flyers fan, I think you guys will like Bob. He is a great guy with a lot of potential. With Bryzgalov, there was no way he would ever get quality playing time with us. I hope he blossoms for y'all.
I'm not even going to read this thread before posting.....
I like this deal. Very little risk on CBJ part. Odds are against the picks turning into anything. Bob is athletic as hell, quick and has very good upside. He plays better with a workload. He may not be the answer but I like this deal and think the reward will greatly outweigh the risk.
